Looking for someone to fix some images.
« on: August 06, 2014, 04:05:09 PM »
I need to take a few images and blow them up to where they can be printed to 8ft x 5ft, and stay high quality. The images I have are smaller, and only 72 dpi. Is this even possible?

I can exchange a board of your choice for the work, or just pay you.

That is a huge print. What size pixels is the image? There really is no way to make a low res photo high quality. You can do basic photoshop stuff to try and make it better but with that size poster, it'd definitely show.

And this might not be the solution you're looking for by you can try and rasterbate the image into panels or even try and form it all in photoshop with the PDF files they give you. Pretty much they take a low res photo and make it into huge dots. It's not high quality but it might be the best output in making your low res photo big.

Fongstarr is correct. If you blow it up you're going to see a lot of dithering and fuzziness regardless.

The technique described is called half-toning. Gives the effect of a print dot matrix... Looks cool if done correctly. More of a graphic look than a traditional photo though.

^^^^You know I have a degree in graphic design and I couldn't pull that term "half-toning" out of my head. The wonder I am not in the industry.

Honestly depending on what photo you are trying to blow up, it might be almost might be easier to just recreate. Hopefully it's not some crazy skate photo but if it's like a product photo or just something along those lines, just shoot it over with a high res camera. The overall quality will just be better.

Do you know if its a vector image?

If you send it to me I'd be happy to take a crack at it.

Assuming it's a traditionally captured photograph it likely won't be vector. I'm a photographer and sometimes-designer and have had some success half-toning images and extending them well beyond their original pixel dimensions. 8.5x11 @ 300dpi to about 3'x5' xerox prints. But the work was sort of experimental for one, and it's intent was decidedly lo-if.  If you tell me a bit about the image particulars and what the final application is I'd be happy to try and offer advice.

Well I can print out the image original size, put jizz on it and then rescan it.

A larger output often affords a bigger intended viewing distance. Lower resolutions can totally work for larger images.

Don't know if this would help but...you could try ''Image trace'' the photo in illustrator which will convert the ''traced'' photo into a vector and then allow you to resize the photo to any size while maintaining it's full quality

Here's a very easy tutorial :

I can scan some of my jizz for you, but only in a low resolution. Might get blocky or sticky.

This sounds like a tough request, small images at 72dpi and you want to print them at above A0.

Obviously they aren't vector as he mentioned the dpi, sounds like best case would be half tone or some other stylist transformation which disguises the fact you have way too little photographic information, if it works out post the results tho.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Image trace has done wonders for me when I've had to blow up pixelated logos and such

Yeah but who's jizz are you gonna use?

damn what kind of scanner do you have?  i think the jizz is gonna get everywhere.  maybe you should just reshoot the jizz hi res and send it back to him.
example. i cant cast a spelll or love potion on a girl and she falls total in love for me
but i can show a girl my tv youtube clip on my or her phone. but there's a difference ok
