Tulsa OK
« on: February 28, 2015, 12:44:50 PM »
Moving to Tulsa for a Sales position in December. Might be a little premature but I'm looking to get to know the area a bit before I get down there permanently. Any Slap Pals down there? I'll likely visit this Summer and scope things out.

If anyone can tell me about shops parks spots I'm excited

KO asluT.
i got selective dyslexia. never spent longer than a greyhound layover there. looks neat, all cities have architectural treasures and tulsa's got a skyline, rough-ish ground but not as bad as some places. had a stripper sleeping on my lap last time through there and thought about rumblefish while i smoked before reboarding call. keep us abreast on affordability and such, i'm a fan of the sorrowful midwest.

I used to spend some time there. Just look around downtown, it's crusty, there's hills, if you like to skate shit on the side of the street you will find something that suits your interests. Honestly the only interesting thing in the city besides skateboarding is Whole Foods and this used video game store called Vintage Stock. The weather sucks, the streets need to be repaved, most of the people in town look inbred, there's no good coffee, the airport is a joke, you can't buy alcohol on Sundays, and some parts of town smell like either the Wonder Bread factory or oil refineries. I am not exaggerating. Good luck.

call me shark tits you 360 ollieing sonofagun. i made a bunch of money trying to hitchhike out of a QT gas station there once and we caught a ride from a female cop who had a heart and her name painted on the door of her cruiser. she was pretty sweet girl! i look forward to a little footage if the weather allows it.
oh, this nutty tweaker broad at the profitable QT tried usurping my panhandle and i was ready to clock her w/ my skate. she pulled the 'how do you know that $5 wasn't for me?' and i called her racist for some reason unrelated to which she replied 'i'm not racist, i eat their food'. she may have been trolling me but i was mad vexed til i learned straight no complies over a parking block at the twice aforementioned gas station.  ended up shooting some speed w/ this cockamamie livestock needle. this was back in my bourbon colored glory daze [dunt duh nuh nuh]. thanks for pushing me out of your car on memory lane, dr brule!

You guys are fucking tripping. I'm from Tulsa. It's mellow, sometimes a bit too mellow, but you just have to make an effort to find shit. The local music scene here is fucking dope. Lots of great improv jazz and hip hop shit going on every night. Sick dive bars or classy wine and cocktail spots depending on your tastes. There are great people here, and I've never really been anywhere as welcoming, especially concerning the skate scene. You won't get vibed if you show up at the park, you'll probably get handed a beer or two and you'll be in the pack from then on. We've got 3 concrete parks and an old metal park scattered around town, and they're all good for different reasons, and then there are parks in surrounding towns just a thirty minute drive away.

Tulsa has shit public transit, isn't very pedestrian friendly, and if you don't have a car you'll hate your life. And so you can't buy strong beer on Sundays. Go to the bar, settle for 3.2 beer, or plan ahead. Also, it is the buckle of the Bible Belt.  Good luck. If you're not a doucher and you like beer i could probably arrange a tour and tasting at Prairie Artisan Ales too.

I grew up in Tulsa, OK and love it man. I recently just moved to NJ for a teaching job.

Right now I don't have much time to put everything good and bad about Tulsa, but I just wanted to post on here so I don't forget to go back later. But the skate scene is pretty great in Tulsa. Lots of different spots and you can typically skate them all day on the weekends without getting hassled. All of my buddies still live down there and I'm sure they'd be open to helping you out/showing you around.

Everybody in OK is real friendly and inviting too.

Where are you moving from?

Dude this is great! Moving from Iowa, looking forward to the weather down there. I should be down there around Christmas time permanently, and hopefully taking some time this Summer to check out the area.

I love beer, and spend a lot of time trying new beer. Not much of a religious guy but I've got no problem with those who are. I'm looking forward to the concrete parks there.

Can't thank you dudes enough! Looking forward to getting down there

One of the worst cities I've ever visited, and I've been all over the US. Boring, uncultured. Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but the best representation of Tulsa is to walk around your nearest mall food court and wait for the weekend so you can drive to OKC.
