Vans TNT SG vs Vans Old Skool 92 Pro
« on: May 21, 2015, 04:18:51 PM »
Hey, was wondering if anyone has any personal reviews of either of these shoes as I've basically only wore regular Old Skools or TNTs (2 and 5 mostly, 4's weird thin sole sucked) for the last 10 years and I kinda want to try something else. Old Skool is my favorite shoe ever, but in my advancing age I'm starting to feel like the lack of cushion isn't helping my ankle/foot pain. I hear that the "pro" version has the Ultracush or whatever, anyone got any insight on how these shoes are?

and/or the TNT SG, is the height strange? As it looks almost mid-top.

Thanks in advance

I can't tell you about the TNT sg yet because I have yet to skate a pair but recently I threw some better insoles in a pair of old skools and the improvement is amazing.  The old skool pro is really nice too they're like a thinner version of the TNT Vs.

if you like old skools you will love the old skool pros.  basically the old skool with a better insole, and suede to make it last a little longer.  not one single complaint about those shoes, other than they maybe run a half size big (most vans pros do).  if the old skool is your favorite shoe ever, it's no brainer.

i've never skated the TNT's, but I tried them on.  they're sick, the only thing I didn't like is they don't have the ultra-cush insole, they have the ortholite one which is thinner at the heel and non-removable.  that's the only reason I didn't buy them.  the felt nice otherwise, i just need more heel support.

hope this helps!

Not sure if its the same thing for these shoes but I just got the AVE classics which come with the non-removable ortholite insole too and I've skated them for probably no more than 24 hours (maybe even less) and after that I noticed the insoles were completely removable. Didnt even have to yank them out or anything its like they were never glued down in the first place

I've had both and I like the SG more now actually. I like that they're just a little higher than a low, so they won't slip off your heel at all, not even when laced down a couple, but don't really look like a mid. The sole feels the same as the 92 pros and av natives.

I really dig the TNTs, although I did take the insoles out and replaced them with some FPs. They're like one eyelet taller than a low, but one shorter than a mid, and the top of the shoe sits at a comfy spot right below the ankle. I have six screws in my right heel, and the odd height feels just right on that foot. They have better ventilation than the Old Skools, too.
