Well California is suppose to raise minimum wage to 15 an hour by 2020 which is a 6 dollar increase of the current wage. I'm scared to see what rent/gas/groceries is going to be like then. One thing is for sure, they are slowly starting to abolish the fast food cashier position which is what originally caused this madness.

Fuck yeah! Thats awesome. I hate interacting with those fast food cashiers. If that machine comes with 3/4 the attitude of a normal taco bell employee this will be a major modern advancement.

I feel that future events live "with" us and influence phenomena in the present.  I occasional can see this phenom in its entirety but its fleeting.

Jack in the Box has been running those machines for like seven years now. Barely anyone ever uses them even when they offer free tacos just for ordering from them. I guess that could change though. As far as killer robots, I'm of the transhumanism persuasion.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism
I feel technology will become more and more a part of us rather than apart from us. Think implants that keep us connected to the internet at all times wherein information can be called forth at will and/or stored to our ever expanding memory, or that can interact with real world physical objects for things like security clearance or transportation. If those examples seem a little mundane because of what we can do with phones nowadays consider that I'm a laymen with limited understanding of future tech, and the fact that such things are so easily digestible now is testament to how far we've moved in this direction. The possibilities are limitless here. We might even create a permanent underclass of people who do not keep up with technology in an ever faster changing world.

That's Los Angeles not the whole state. San Francisco and I think Oakland have something similar but theres not going to be 15 dollar minimum in hesparia anytime soon.

I coulda sworn it was all of California but it makes it worse if its just L.A. I feel like i worked really hard over the years to afford to live in LA and now when i can comfortably do it i can expect expenses to go even higher?! talk about a slap in the face!

i can see driving being illegal at some point once self-driving cars become ubiquitous.

as was mentioned earlier, implantable tech will be the norm, eventually on the cellular level.

that is if AI doesn't rebel and kill us all first.  or the global warming meltdown/food shortage/population explosion.  or north korea.  or....

The only thing I can realistically see killing us ALL are killer robots, but even that seem pretty far-fetched.  Global warming is going to screw a lot of people, but people will just migrate to different parts of the world. North Korea doesn't have the arsenal to kill us all.  Russia does though.  People should be more afraid of Russia.  http://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/

Climate change may not directly kill us all but it may well be the proximate cause of a major social and demographic upheaval that leads to civilizational collapse. Honestly, the way we're going now I'm skeptical that human beings will be able to develop all these advanced technologies without flaming out first due to environmental degradation or resource scarcity (which can obviously lead to other problems like war, famine etc.) Individually, people are really smart, but collectively, I think humanity is far too dumb to make the difficult choices necessary to survive this kind of increase in our creative/destructive capabilities.

Maybe, maybe not.  Man has proven they are capable of building some damn fine fences to keep the raiders at bay.  Or we'll live in a gigantic artificial maximum security ecosystem.  Sure BioSphere 2 was a massive failure, but 3rd time's a charm I tell you!  We'll live underground and shoot golf balls into the star gate.  I have faith in humankind's ability to withstand global catastrophes.

SF is currently 12.25/hr minimum wage, they're aiming to rase it to 15/hr by 2018. My industry (restaurant) is gonna get fucked so hard by that and I can see so many old school taquerias, italian joints, BBQ places, and pizza spots that everyone loves go under because SF is a billionaire yuppie city now.

I feel like this thread is also a good crossover for the libtard/conservtard thread.

Has it gone self-aware yet though?

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

More people need to play the Talos Principle. It actually does a good job at explaining how investing more into robotics may end up being the only way our knowledge can go beyond the human race. The way we are treating the Earth/each other, it wouldn't surprise me if some major shit goes down in the next couple hundred years that risk wiping out nearly everything here. But robots could handle all of these issues like no food/water, radiation, disease and all that shit.

If we figured out how to develop AI enough to match humans without all of the flaws then everything we know could go on way beyond our existence. Of course that task doesn't really even seem possible and if given to the wrong hands could end up being horrible. The people who built the game Space Engineers are researching how to develop AI that can teach itself things so there is a chance link.

Thinking that far into the future though is pretty gnarly. I can't even predict how tomorrow will be for me so who knows.

Pretty sure I've covered this before, but the value of the dollar will plummet. The only legitimate forms of currency will be gold and ammunition. White Christian men will finally stand up to their oppressors, as they are sick of "anti-racist" being code for "anti-white". There will be a race war of epic proportions. Unfortunately, comrade Obama and his socialist administration has opened the floodgates of our southern border, resulting in- you guessed it- MEXICANS. This, coupled with the fact that Barrack HUSSEIN Obama has welcomed the existence of MUSLIMS with opened arms, spells nothing but GENOCIDE for the White Race. This will result in mandatory abortions of all white babies and forced gay marriages for all straight white Christian men. Vote for Ted Cruz and TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.

Another possibility:
Things will pretty much slowly get shittier and shittier, or better and better depending on how you look at it. We will talk about all the negative impacts on society and the environment, but not actually ever do anything about it. It's much easier to just post a one-liner on twitter.

Just sniff some glue
