Uniqlo. Not the packaged ones, the 'premium' ones. They are like 10 bucks.

If you are on the tall side (I am 5' 10"), American Apparel 50/50 shirts.  They are not cheap, but I think all AA stores have a buy 2 get one half off if you so desire to utilize that.

They don't shrink length wise like a lot of shirts and they're super soft but they don't lose shape.

I usually just get fruit of the loom. They've always been fine for me, but then again I'm not picky when it comes to shit like that. Fits well? Yes. Somewhat durable? Yes. Comfy? Yes. Ok, I back it.

second this. they used to sell the perfect plain pocket tee a few years back but it seems they stopped making them. but their plain tees are nice. also the heattech stuff is good for winter skating.

I don't wear shirts with logos on them anymore. Usually get plain ts and pocket ts from the j crew outlets or online when they are having factory sales. Usually pretty cheap and are quality compared to their chinos which blow.

I have some Fruit of the Loom long-sleeves and they're great. They're roughly $6 at walmart; definitely worth it.

They're all nice for the price but my favorite are the unpackaged supima tees. $13 and they're super soft and fit perfect. Even more stoked that my employee discount makes them way cheaper.

Kickland Costco brand. Only the white ones are worth getting but they are tough and thick if you like that style.

American Apparel Poly Cotton t shirts are the best I've ever had. It keeps it shape and doesn't shrink much and is the right amount of lightweight . Will run you close to 20 bucks a shirt but its well worth it to me considerings its the perfect shape. I hate the hanes tees that are super short almost like a bib, barely gets to your belly button and its extra wide and crinkled collar. Would rather have one t shirt for 20 instead of 5 shitty shirts made like that for the same price.

Haven't tried em all, but the best material I've ever had in a "plain t-shirt" has been ones made from bamboo-cotton. Their so comfy and they keep their shape decently. Also, a huge plus with that material is how well stains wash out from them.
