Stoked on this , when they first dropped info on this it was billed as " the black hawk down of star wars " .

Was hoping they had Vader in the trailer , was that Vader kneeling in front of the hologram ?

Rogue one this year , then star wars 8  , then Han solo movie , then star wars 9 and then maybe Bobba Fett or old republic movie

Good times to be a star wars fan

I don't think that's Vader since in a cloak. But who knows.

Is that some bacta tank he/she is kneeling in front of?
Maybe some cloning tech?

but anyway, HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS AMAZING

They should stop making these. I fell asleep in the theater watching the force awakens. I'm gonna skip this one entirely.

I'm betting no Jedi.

Obi Wan and Yoda wont be in the film - if they were, we'd probably be getting their stand alone films soon after Rogue One. And we're not.

And the Rebellion doesn't seem to have any Jedi until Luke.

There's Kanan from Rebels cartoon, but Erza will have killed him by these events.
Maul is already seducing that kid to the dark side.

Rebels is a horrible show . Not sure why people like it

Obi wan movie might happen after the han solo one . supposedly ewan mcgregor has already been in for talks about it and wants to do it.

Think the only Jedi / Sith in Rogue One will be the emperor and Darth Vader

I actually liked the force awakens, but I fear this is pretty true. I really don't have a lot of interest in how the plans for the death star were stolen. This is just gonna be a mediocre movie that will do well at the box office because it has AT-AT's and shit.

No, they really should put Obi Wan in the movie. Just one weird, out of place shot of him sitting in his hovel on Tattooine.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

You are crazy , even if you took the best parts of the  3 prequels and blended them together it still would be no where close to how good the force awakens was

After the horrible 3 prequels nobody wanted to see another Star Wars movie . Do you remember Jar Jar binks ? The acting of Portman and Christienson ?  the fucking trade disputes ? the kid playing Anakin accidently   flying around shooting things ?

Padme dying from " loosing the will to live "  Disney pretty much saved the Star Wars movie universe

The stand alone movies are going to be alot different then the 7 first movies . This is pushing more a war movie then the last ones .

Force Awakens was just an homage to the older Star Wars. I really thought they were going to do something different considering the last 3 Star Wars. Maybe with this stand along movie, they can make some waves on making something different. I guess it really doesn't matter since the real goal from all this is to make money.

Maybe with this stand along movie, they can make some waves on making something different.

This is why I have higher hopes for this than The Force Awakens. Not to say I didn't like The Force Awakens, but it was pretty much A New Hope: The Remake. Keep the vibe, do a different story.

well at least we know they won't blow up a death star.

i'd rather watch a new star wars than another crappy avengers. being a dad, it's pretty awesome to take my kids to star wars movies too. i can't imagine how any child of the 70s couldn't enjoy that on some level.

I'm just worried about the Marvelization of the Star Wars universe. Doling out pieces but never telling TRUE standalone stories that aren't tie-ins to the next property that are essentially villain of the week episodes that tease future properties.

I'm excited about Rogue One but now I'm also getting a vibe now that it is going to do more overt "seed planting" for future stories which when taken too far starts to make the movie you are actually watching seem more like a rest stop than a destination (and judging by the Marvel scheme, one never gets to a destination or completed story arc.)

Also, I really liked Rey as the main protagonist and I'm absolutely fine with female protagonists. I think it's good for my daughter to see strong females in movies and it's certainly fine for my son too. That said, when I was a kid I fully identified with Luke which was probably one reason Star Wars was such a big deal for me (like Chuck Klosterman said, we can like Han better now and pretend now we liked Han better back then, but whiny Luke was who most kids wanted to be). Would I have been as interested in a female character back then? I don't know. My kids are the same age now that I was when I was Star Wars crazy and they are not particularly invested in it. Is this because my son doesn't explicitly want to be Rey and my daughter doesn't care about a puerile space fantasy?
It seems lame to suggest little boys only want to see boys in their lead roles but maybe it's true? (Until Finn gets less wishy washy and Poe gets to do something besides say, "Woohoo!", I'm leaving them out of the conversation.)

I've still yet to see a single Rey action figure and I'm in a lot toy stores with my kids. At first I chalked it up to sexist marketing miscalculation that thought boys wouldn't buy them or most girls would not be interested in Star Wars. Now the toy companies have had time to correct that which they presumably would for profit's sake. I'm starting to wonder if boys really won't buy Rey figures and most girls just aren't that interested in Star Wars?

I'm not sure what I'm trying to say with this mini rant.
"Quit puttin icky girls in the lead role so my small minded kid buys more toys!"? Or maybe the casting feels forced in some way that ignores some of the series' pedigree? Daisy Ridley was exceptionally well cast but I superficially don't like this new actress?

It was brought up in the Force Awakens thread aswell . In alot of ways Force Awakens was a remake of A New Hope . But it was needed .

A new hope started of the star wars empire and craze and with the 3 shitty prequals and then years of inactivity there needed to be a New Hope . Maybe not for fans like me or you , but for the general public there was a need to tap into the old star wars

So for force awakens we knew about it years ahead of it , we knew who is coming back , the new stars and so on . But for Rogue One , most people didnt even know a movie was coming out . Or what its about . I think most people going into this movie will think Rey and Finn , Poe are all in this movie and its part 8 .

Even when its so connected to the original story , most people didnt even know about it . Thats why making true stand alone stories are hard to do . There is talk about some stand alone stuff but I think they want to make sure its more solid then it is right now

The Star Wars universe is so huge and great that you can do infinite movies , books and netflix shows and games . It was right to bring it back and not let it die with Lucas shitty 3 movies

As for female leads / heros . Theres always been powerful women in Star Wars . Soldiers , fighter pilots , Commanders , leaders , Jedis and sith . Even with Rey you still had many positive male roles . Will be the same in Rogue One

Both sexes can find role models when it comes to the Star Wars universe

Looks like the conversation has progressed past the question of whether or not Vader will be in it, but thought I would throw in my 2 cents on that - you can hear his breathing at about 1:28 in the trailer at the end of the word "become".
