Lived in Ottawa for twelve years total and lived in Toronto for almost eight, even though I’m from Winnipeg. I’ve got roots in MB and ON.

Miss both cities quite a bit but it’s cool. Toronto is definitely more skate-friendly; I lived in Etobicoke, North York, Parkdale briefly, and the Junction and met a few good skate friends out there. Would always travel way out to the Ellesmere park and all the others. Ottawa had only one park near Baseline when I lived there, no Bowins park yet. I lived in Sandy Hill and had fun skating the small hills and across the bike paths around Alta Vista. Would cruise around downtown and the Byward Market. Fuck I miss it all.

bowins park has been a blessing. first time being in ottawa that I can bike to a park without it being a mission. nighttime market and downtown cruising is always a blast, new spots coming up regularly around downtown now too with the construction modernizing the city like this one on Elgin (taken from the ottawaskatespots IG).

we still lack the large modern skate park/plaza you see in most major cities. hopefully something is in the pipeline

Nighttime cruising around the city was super fun. I still regret that I never cruised down Sparks Street, walked down there lots and it was a staple of my childhood but I never really skated it. I wish I could've filmed a line there or something...maybe one day.

I'm surprised that there's still not that many parks there, kinda lends credence to the argument that Ottawa is mainly a "government town." Here in Winnipeg there's an abundance of good parks which is a definite upside.

Shout out to Birling as well, a friendly and progressive shop. Aaron Cayer is good peoples.
