"Skateboarding used to be anti-establishment, but now if you wear skate clothing, you're trendy," says Broussard. "Scooters started [out] punk-rock. The older generation couldn't afford skateboards or BMX bikes, but we could dumpster-dive for scooters."

rolling stone is reaching on this one, if you want to laugh look up the 900 they reference when talking about the sport progressing way faster than skating, it's some kook doing it off a quarterpipe into a bank, not even comparable to doing a trick on a vert ramp.

Uh becoming??  I don't know what year this guy is living in but scooters have been flooding the streets for the past 6 or 7 years at least.

i thought scooters started when my grandparents started adding bicycle handles to their skateboards.
leave it to a magazine named after a sextegenarian band to really know what's up in the streets.

The 900 comparison they make would be like saying rollerblading makes running obsolete because the former is faster

Never thought I'd be writing a comment on the Rolling Stone site because of an article about scooters that mentioned skateboarding dying. Did they publish an Onion article by accident? I know Rolling Stone has been wack for three decades but this is off the charts.

We are truly living in dark times. I didn't live through the rollerblade crisis of the early 2000's for this! The humanity...

The quote about being able to scooter in an hour sums it up. This is like comparing a soundcloud rapper to the Beatles or something.
