Well folks, as the days get shorter we enter SOTY season. Obviously the big parts are yet to come, but based on the first seven months of 2018, what are your Skater of the Year predictions? Who has the early lead? Who been saving footage for the October surprise drop? Who will suck up to Thrasher enough to take it from the person who legitimately should get it like every other year?

I never thought I would see two Jake Johnson parts in a calendar year, so he definitely has an early lead. Although a dearth of second half footage would basically take him out. I can see Thrasher really wanting to give JJ the cover. Does Jake have some tricks up his sleeve for the home stretch? Does he give a fuck about winning?

I can easily see Foy dropping another part of two and going back to back. He already has had so many hammer clips, a Magnified, that Spitfire part, skated great for his namesake 'Golden Foytime' SOTY trip video early this year, and he is a machine who could probably crank out another 3 minutes of legit footage at the last minute.

Who else we got?
Austyn Gillette could take it with some more Thrasher-centric coverage.
Mason Silva has also been a monster in 2018 and is contributing to KOTR, with definitely more to come. Will the Element video be a big factor?
Another heavy part from Dickson in early November could easily take it.
Zion has produced so far.
Everybody loves Tyshawn.
Why not Andrew Allen? Maybe quitting Anti-Hero is why.

Who am I obviously overlooking here? What other anticipated videos are scheduled to drop in the autumn?

Jake's two parts feature about 3 minutes of skating from him and contain footage going back to his Gravis days. Jake's my favorite skater, but he's not winning that shit. He's probably gearing up for retirement.

My dark horse candidate of choice is Winkowski, but I have a feeling Dickson will drop another part and win it this year.

Milton Martinez(s?) - Lots of thrash her coverage, does some unquestionably big shit and has the sponsors to back him if they want to (volcom cons creature etc)

Tyshawn has a good chance too. As does Evan Smith if he can put a part or two out

Jake Johnson - The people's choice. Last part in the Cons video and a solid (albeit dated) showing in the Quasi video are nothing to scoff at. If he could muster up something for the GX video, a Dickies video, or an OJ part, this could be his year... but probably not.

Chima Ferguson - Basically the same as above. His Vans part was sick, but does he have the staying power as some of the other dudes on this list?

Austyn Gillette - His Former part put him back on top after his knee injury, and if the rumors of a new board brand have any credit behind them, we'll be seeing much more of him to come this year.

Tyshawn Jones - There's no way this dude's Supreme footage won't melt faces. Plus, that Adidas feature with the Gonz? Tough to beat.

Nyjah Huston - The cover, almost 4 million views on YouTube, and an Element part at the end of the year.

Mason Silva - A strong KOTR performance and rumors of last part in the Element video could be the end-of-year push Mason needs to win.

Zion Wright - He already dropped his Real part, and Red Bull clearly has money to throw around. Another strong KOTR performance and a Nike part are all that he needs.

Not unlike many other’s picks: Austyn, Ishod, Tyshawn.

I felt Tiago should have gotten it last year.

Isn’t Nora Vasconsellos going to be coming out with a Thrasher part soon? She’d have to be my “dark horse” pick. Plus I’m slightly in love with her in a totally non-pervy way.

...of course Ishod is a contender based on his skating, but I just don't like it, when someone gets it more than once (especially Cole's second one rubbed me the wrong way! D-Way's was a bit different, as there had been quite a few years since he had his last one).

I think Milton is a good pick but the creature video was last year. He does the craziest stuff. Nora is a good pick for this year if she can do more stuff in the second half. She skated wallows with the Gonz, starred in "dont grab my tits" and did good in her contests.

Similar to Leo Romero's run where his previous year was so insane that if he maintains it for an official vid he's basically got it.
