Let's talk about the Foundation Super Co.
« on: August 12, 2018, 08:42:25 AM »
I see it popping up in other threads here and there, so why provide a safe space to focus entirely on where Foundation is at right now and what we think of it.

I gotta say, between Oddity and KOTR, against all odds the current Foundation team is actually sticking in my memory. Cole Wilson basically owns 'up the rail' tricks (that recent street rail up 50-50 rock fakie 50-50 sealed the deal) and has won the past two Real Street competitions (for what that is worth in the minds of skaters).

Corey Duffman put himself back in the spotlight with that Keeping the Faith part.

And King of the Road has miraculously added a little life to such cut-outs of Aiden Campbell and Corey Glick. Obviously the team has chops, but now they have personality. Even Nick Merlino's image has somehow transformed from unacceptably annoying to endearingly annoying. KOTR has made me actually like Foundation again (and basically done the opposite for Real).

And I gotta say the whole reputation as 'the team that doesn't get paid' has created a real vibe that these guys all love skating and have a real family thing going.

I wonder if their board sales have picked up recently?

Also, this flow chart of the history of Foundation's riders and videos that Thrasher did a while back is awesome:
Warm Up Zone. Let's watch some skateboarding videos.

I’ve always had a soft spot for foundation.
They tend to gain momentum then blow it with bad graphics after a few runs of good graphics. Or the team falls apart. Or coverage just stops.
That have been great in KOTR and I hope they can win! Lord knows they need the cash.

I think they're dropping another video this year, too. Or maybe early next. Either way they're starting to win me over again as a once huge fan, and I hope this momentum does well for them. Same goes for Toy, for that matter.

The That's Life to Cataclysmic Abyss era will always be my favorite, and had a big influence on me as I was just starting to skate when they came out. Now that I'm older I have a bigger appreciation for Shimizu's part and Rusczyk. WTF was kind of a let down when it dropped but they've really dig deep and brought themselves back from the brink

I’ve also been really stoked on the foundation team on KOTR.  They seem to be the ones having most fun - feels like they’re more connected as a team of friends.  I’m gonna defo pick up a board and support, I’m sure these guys are doing it for the love

didn't Don Luong pretty much just film Oddity on his own dime? i'd say he's a big part of why Toy and FoSkCo are looking up nowadays

I know a few guys on the team, and they are rad. They are also some of the most casually talented guys I've skated with

Who was the guy that did the front heel over the bump to bar during king of the road ? that was ridiculous casual.

In the U.K all the Tum Yeto brands are distributed by these guys https://www.tkcsales.co.uk/
Who also distribute toys and some pretty terrible shit. Whats more they are owned or directly aligned ( I maybe wrong ) with Route one the biggest chain store in the U.K so many core stores don't fuck with any Tum Yeto brands as a result.

I've been a life long Toy Machine fan but have bought the minimum of their product because they are often only available in Route one stores.

I stopped liking foundation around “that’s life” when they became the cheesy generic San Diego tight pant rail team. It was so generic and formulaic. They stayed with that and even fell deeper into it until they became a joke.
They definitely are killing it lately though.
Cole Wilson and Nick Merlino are definitely leading the charge from obscurity.
If Foundation does have a full-on comeback though, they owe Cole Wilson a house in La Jolla or something equivalent.
Nobody would have even noticed the other dudes if Cole wasn’t doing what he does
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

That's funny, when I was younger this part really showed me what was possible in skateboarding beyond tricks and helped define what I wanted to do from then on. Still in my top five.

Don’t remember Taylor Smith. So he turned pro and then disappeared?
