I thought this was really weird to post:
I dunno, I think it’s kinda cool and it definitely gives some perspective to some of his quirky tendencies.
My older brother is on the autism spectrum, and public education definitely didn’t do him any favors. He was high functioning, but when we were growing up if you were labeled with any sort of learning disability you were just thrown into a room with the others, regardless of how severe you were. I think that’s definitely changing nowadays, but there’s still a lot about the spectrum that people don’t understand. In college I worked for a program meant to mentor autistic college students, and it definitely gave me a greater perspective on how these things are addressed by educators and the general public alike. I back Alex being candid about his own upbringing because I think it’s bringkng awareness to something that definitely needs it.
Sorry for rambling. This is just something that occupies my mind quite often.
