Can confirm, grew up in HB. It's ground zero for the worst that modern conservatism can conjure up. HB also has had a deep history of being a safe haven for neo-nazi and violent white supremacist groups. The story of how Ray Barbee being almost murdered in downtown HB by neo-nazi skins is a good example.

And if you think that those white supremacist roots haven't touched the local skate scene in HB then you would be mistaken. I have seen evidence of it with my own eyes, even very recently.

back in 2003 I was helping my friends band with road work one night and they had a show in HB. I have a bald head and tattoos. I wasn't allowed to enter one venue without a hat or a long sleeve shirt due to the possibility of people thinking I was some sort of neo nazi. That was a strange concept to me. Anyway the band was Pour Habit, if anyone has ever heard of them...I'm also not a neo nazi nor have ever held any racist beliefs in my life, I just don't have hair and I have some tattoos. But seeing has that was my first experience in HB ever I asked the guys in the band about this and they told me theres a bunch of that mentality at some places in HB. I lived under the assumption that coastal california was all hippy dippy and overall accepting of all walks of life. I wish I was young again and not jaded by experience, because it's better to be naive and think the best of others than it is to be realistic and know theres some ignorant mentality all around.
