I know plenty of artists that started out after the advent of social media and they all came up the same way.  Also, he's improved greatly since he started just a few months ago.  Nothing out of the ordinary for an apprentice to post their progress.

Even he explicitly said tattoo artists did this 20-30 years ago and he doesn't condone the behavior. And look I agree that the gatekeeping is antiquated and that Tyler making money off what he does is not the big deal here. He can scratch all he wants as far as I care, I just wish he wasn't spamming us with it.

The real issue is that now I have to deal with one of my favorites no longer giving us the skating we all want to see and instead posting and endless stream of American style tattoos that make me (and probably others that won't admit it) a lil bit embarrassed for him. I think that is lame, hence why I posted it in the thread. If that makes me a tattoo conservative I shall focus, shalom!

He has improved ten fold. He is doing some pretty good line work and shading and quickly so i imagine he will be great.  As an apprentice or new career tattooer its essential to post consistently, show off your work and build a client base.

Did a quick count and 10 out of 90 most recent posts had skating in them. 80 posts were shots of tattoos or paintings he's done.

You are right he doesn't owe me or anyone else anything, I am not entitled to see his skating on IG. Bet he's probably getting clips for the next quasi project anyway, which I'd much rather see him in than on my phone screen.

I hope he is, or I will take my concerns to the wasted talent thread lol.

Ignoring the snowflake stuff i think you explained your perspective and that of established tattoo artists very well.

I think the disconnect here is that many of the rest of us don't take it so seriously and generally think whoever should want to do tattoos should be able to. That probably sounds like a wild statement to you but we just don't care as much/don't understand that side of things. The hardcore devotion to preserving the craft just isn't as important to the rest of us, and maybe we're kooks for ruining it but as long as nobody is being hurt or held down and forcibly being given tattoos, we dont give much of a shit. At least I don't. Unless tyler bledsoe is involved.

Tattoo enthusiasts remind me of Harley bikers. They think they're in this cool counter culture, when really the only barrier to getting into the culture is to have money to buy a motorcycle, or a tattoo, and it's super mainstream.
