I wouldn't be surprised in the least if those employees posting against vans didn't even read and comprehend the email.
That said, in today's day and age, the flow of information is so much more different. "Influencers" have the ability to reach millions and millions of people, which I believe disproportionally affects the youth. I refuse to pay for TV services and never have. I do not think I am unique in any way. So, this transforms Instagram and whatever other social media outlets from a place to share a picture of your sandwich, to a source of media that impressionable kids rely upon for information which in turn influences their decisions/beliefs.
That being said, we also have the co-occurrence of a "two party system" and equally as divided media sources.
Last, but most CERTAINLY not least, is the fact that public education has been MASSIVELY underfunded in the US for decades.
Now consider how the fact that it is
unusual when professional skateboarders actually finish high school. Suciu getting a Bachelor's becomes a Ph.D., when in fact, a BA in today's day and age is basically making up for the deficiencies of the K-12 experience.
The anti-science rhetoric in contemporary times is WILDLY disconcerting.
"Alternative facts"? Are you serious? The insidious nature of anti-intellectualism and understanding basic scientific concepts has lead us to politicians who are unarguably inept at understanding CORE concepts. Let alone discussing disagreements in a fashion where they are open to the actualization they are completely wrong.
TL;DR
Don't listen to professional skateboarders about health related information. Look to the American Medical Association, Center for Disease Control, etc.
