never been a huge fan, but two parts in one year at his age and after all of his injuries is pretty inspirational. neither of his parts come close to level of talent involved in other contenders, but his parts make me want to skate more than any of these other dudes. seems to still have phelper’s good graces (both parts this year were on thrasher) and he’s gotten a decent amount of coverage.

i really don’t believe corey’s getting this year, but i guess he’s really SOTY in my heart.

thoughts / opinions ?

I think it all just comes down to timing. I'd say if he would have it'd have been 2007 with his C.A part but MJ took it that year (deservedly so) , then he was injured intermittently after that

There was a year where he put out like three parts and was supposed to go on KOTR but he broke his leg. I feel like in an alternate universe he would have gone and then won.

If he won that would be amazing but I don't see it happening. SOTY is huge for companies when their rider wins. Duffel has no big sponsors and his career is nearing the end even if he's still putting out parts and inspiring people to just have fun and skate. Someone with alot of sponsors like Zion or Evan will win. Their sponsors will have free marketing and push out a bunch of SOTY orientated product.

Rumor has it he was pretty much going to get it that year until he broke his leg or something right before KOTR and was laid up for the remainder of the year. This also happened before Fully Flared came out at the end of 2007, so even if he’d been fully healthy all year it still coulda gone either way. Regardless, Duffel was on an absolute rampage for like 7 years straight, especially from ‘06-‘09ish, he put out like 62 full parts within a few years time

definitely agree with all of this. i guess where i’m at with it is thinking about AVE winning a few years back. did he deserve it that year? yeah, probably; but not because he was pushing any boundaries for skateboarding. he mostly just pushed his own boundaries and arguably had the best year of his career.

again, i don’t think duffel’s taking SOTY this year but i’d love to see thrasher entertain the idea a little bit.

AVE got somehow not after mindfield. Would make more sense for duff man to get it this year than ave the year he won.....

Ishod still all time QB tho.

I just dont want Zion to win it which he most likely will.

It should go to the duffels and AVEs way before the Foys and Zions

Also amount of parts doesnt matter otherwise it would be a Suciu award

Agreed, 06-09 Duffel was amazing, havent watched his new part yet but im sure its a crowd pleaser

definitely no comparison, at least on my behalf. i was definitely rooting for AVE when he got SOTY. i’m simply stating, for the same reason i wanted AVE to win then, i’d root for duffel to win this year.

I don't think Thrasher will even entertain the idea but I really liked his part. Duffel is underrated, always had quality stuff and his song selection is on point. Interested to see where he ends up after all this.
