Flat boards
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:25:31 AM »
Have been riding the deluxe II shape for a few months now, really enjoy it because of its mellow nose and tail, as well as a lack of concave. I really dig the simplicity of skating really flat boards. Im at the point where i feel i can do all my tricks without needing any sort of extra concave/pop. Also just feels better to stand on, concave not poking at my feet. My question is, who makes flat boards with minimal nose and tail? Now dont go suggesting some old school shape on me lol.

Had an 8.6 wknd that was flat as all hell, but the nose was fat as fuck. Magenta and Anti Hero make super flat 8.5s that I've liked, and I'm currently on a Killing Floor 8.6 that's really flat. Basically, I love flat boards.

I saw your mom do a ollie to cooch drop straight down the big black pole, it was gnarly. she defiantly shut that shit down

My friend gave me one that he skated for like two sessions, and I found out why.

I got this Blood Wizard deck on one of those super clearance sales.  Very, very flat. Graphic looks awful in person.  :-\

Currently skating a Toy Machine classic "fist" board and my god is this thing flat. I love flat boards, but this is a whole new level. Took me a solid 5 sessions or so to get the hang of skating it. Not very responsive at all.

Yeah ive been skating krooked deluxe the number 2 shape/concave (engraved on top layer in middle of baseplate). Same shit as anti hero. They have this new numbering system but my shop and others sometimes dont have any so im trying to seek out other options.

The new Powell / Mini Logo K20 concave has really flat nose/tail.  I had the 8.5" 248 shape that I only skated about 5 times because it was too flat for me.

Their manufacturing page says 18 degree nose/tail.
https://www.skateone.com/manufacturing/

For comparison, Dwindle lists their "Mellow kicks" as about 21 degrees each and their steep is 22.5.

I believe Real was listing their nose/tail as around 21 as well.

Have you tried any of the flight shapes? I've seen you on the Powell forum from time to time, but SLAP is my home.

Have you tried any of the flight shapes? I've seen you on the Powell forum from time to time, but SLAP is my home.

I believe the flight decks are a different construction on the same mold - meaning a 242 shaped flight should be the same shape as a 242 maple, just thinner.

I have both a 242 (8" full nose) and a 248 (8.5" more tapered nose) conventional.  They are flat.  I have the 8" set up with Thunder 147s and 51mm wheels and it's a good shape.  I don't mind the flatness of it skating street and it pairs well with the Thunders.

The 8.5 uses the same exact same concave with a longer drilling so there is a little less flat between the bolts and kicks. It also measures out at almost 8.625.  I set it up with Indys and 55mm wheels.  I skate a bigger board in pools and other transition and didn't dig the flatness at all.  I like a steeper nose/tail in these situations to help me feel locked in and I just wasn't getting that.  I took it apart after skating it about 5 times and will probably give it to some kid with a wrecked deck.

Some of the bigger flight decks use the K15 concave, which I love in transition.  The 192 shape (9.26") set up with 169 Indy Ti would be an amazing setup.

I had a full nose flight board and the concave was on the steeper side.....

Flat is a tough one, I was gonna say your average generator board ie. Magenta, Isle etc...but they are more mellow than flat.
