He’s the Russian TM for Nike SB. It’s his job to post fake news on social media sites to lure sales away from smaller companies.

Guess the hype for weed socks must have finally died out.

I doubt the company is really going out. I don't see many of them in public but we haven't seen the typical Exodus of riders. Maybe we'll get Gillette on Adidas, that'd be nice.

It's not done. Just no longer making footwear. They will continue to make apparel. So now everyone on the team is shoe sponsor shopping.

I heard from the inside that they turned down a collab with Fortnite, fearing that Epic's game would hurt their brand image. yeah… it's only the biggest game ever with a player base that crushes ever other title. And to think with that crossover appeal? Wow.

www.renegadebrandgroup.com

They aren't listed on the site but google searches say altamont capital/renegade also own Girl. Everyone was worried about the sportswear brands and didn't see the investors coming in the back door. It was the skaters who sold their brands to these people.

austyn is the only 100% certainty to end up on one of them and actually be on the team. jake anderson, should, but who knows. i think cromer is a outside chance. the rest i don't think will be on any of them, not in any sort of meaningful way at least.

Probably why they're cutting shoes. Big company doesn't see enough profit from shoes, so they decide to cut it.

I was thinking the same thing, but this is usually the path most skate brands following when they sell out to a third party.

Damn that's shitty. Talk about short term thinking from the investors end. They stop supporting skating and lose any credibility they had. RIP

girl/crail bought themselves out of altamont pretty quick (like within a year or so) but left lakai which is 'overseen' by huf. doesn't necessarily mean lakai will stop making shoes, maybe some huf riders who don't get picked up will switch to the flare

Lesson time, newbie.  The credibility has already been established OUTSIDE of skateboarding.  They just used skateboarders to do it.  There's a hell of a lot more people that DON'T skate and rock HUF gear, than there is skaters that do.  Add up the amount of money paid to the riders, the filming production, per diem, plane tix, meals, and hotels, etc.  Now eliminate those expenses.  Your profit margin just went up.

Stay in school, kid.

The target demographic does not understand legitimacy in skateboarding. They understand swag, trends, posing, fronts, etc.

Stop expecting the legitimacy of skateboarding to be sold to you by a brand. Brands consume legitimate street culture and sell a watered down version of it to a mass consumer market. By their nature brands are not legitimate sources of cultural evolution they are only distorted reflections of the past.

I love Huf the skater, during his era... but Huf shoes aren't anything special. This makes sense though as I swear I saw Josh Matthews skating in Converse the other day at the park.
