Wow congratulations, you've done it.

You have single-handledly prevented anyone from creating a new brand by posting this thread on SLAP.

You reward is the opportunity to create your own board company.

So many shit board brands these days - it might be a better exercise to decide what board brands actually have an identity and then toss the rest.

He’s doing one?  Kind of interested to see what he cooks up.  I kind of like all the board companies.  Could you imagine if there was only Plan B, Element and Blind to choose from?

I like that there are companies like Scumco, Evisen and Heroin that can pretty much put out whatever the fuck they want without having to worry about alienating the mom that goes into the skate shop to buy a complete for their kid’s Christmas present.

All the fucking 3rd wave independent board companies started by old pros should gtfo. They will probably die off in the next 3-5 years anyways, if not less. Just sad to see some of my favorite pros kooking themselves like this.
By these companies I mean:
Thank you
Business and company
Madness
Numbers (even though the team, the graphics and everything is great imo)
The new J Lee company
Maxallure
Lovesick
Visual
Etc, etc, etc, you know what I’m talking about. I believe that of all things in a brand that skateboarding needs and prefers most is authenticity. None of these companies have it and some of the older brands just lost it when they started getting bigger.

What makes these inauthentic in comparison to other brands?  I’m not saying that you’re wrong.

I don't understand why Auby Taylor is starting his own company instead of continuing to ride for Black Label.

I'm hyped that the old guard of companies are finally collapsing under their own weight, and we are seeing new companies springing up.

There have been soo many young dudes who were awesome that weren't able to work their way up the ranks because there were too many old dudes who just wouldn't fucking leave or give up control. (I think of Jonathan Pierce losing his window to come up, because he was stuck waiting for Blackbox to do something with him.)

The older skaters with established companies should have followed Rocco's model: find a charismatic talented younger dude, fund his new company while maintaining a large percent of the company, promote it via a media outlet owned by the distribution company, repeat, and see what sticks.

They either needed to invest heavily in market research or allow young people who know what is cool run the show. Sadly, they all believed that they were awesome and everyone (young and old) should love them because "they know what is cool."

Funny you mention Dill. First on my list would be FA camp.
AVE is gnarly, Dill has history and a strong skate personality. If Dylan was still around, they might have someone i care about.
Just a bunch of supreme clones that really haven’t produced anything.
SOTY? Some dude that put out one part this year. Ok, i’m sure he’s good. Wouldn’t know. Too busy watching all these other dudes produce non-stop footage of them killing all terrains but that dude did nollie flip a trash can.
Theres that.
