Sick! I’ve been following you on IG for a while. Do you run live skate media?
Thank you, Live is Benjamin Deberdt's website originally (Sugar, Chill, Kingpin) but yeah co-running it with him is one of the things I do. Please feel free to DM me if you ever want to talk about it.
@fineslime I loved your edit. Good natural style on everything but I agree varial heelflip line was my favorite, also because you gave ledge front board pop out in the middle some love and it's the best trick no one knows. In fact that was a pretty Rasa Libre line. You do seem surprised to land such a good varial heelflip on the clip too which makes it kind of cool you're still stoked on it all these years later; my favorite part about skate footage is that it doesn't just capture the moves but also the energy. Watching old clips of yourself in particular feels like reliving how they felt for a split second which you're kind of demonstrating here and is quite fascinating. Made me want to go skate.
@silhouette - hey man, thanks for the kind words and I really appreciate you taking the time to watch! telling someone you inspired them to skate is the highest compliment you could give, imo. I was very much influenced by Rasa and that particular style of skating. I even went through a brown/ drab/ olive green and hemp bracelet phase about a year befor that haha.
that footage was filmed when I was 20 (I'm now 33.) during that time, I was living away from home for the first time with my first love. working as a barista for $9 an hour while my girlfriend went to college. my life was still very much focused on only skating. in the apartment we shared, on new years day, I wrote a list of things I wanted to do, and one of them was, "get on stage," and perform stand up comedy... it was about a year later that I actually did, and I went on to consistently do stand up and have somewhat of a small career until 2020.
the person who filmed all that footage was the first friend I made when I moved there, and he introduced me to everyone in the scene. he's now a photographer in Seattle and he is one of the coolest people I've ever met.
I say all that because when you say watching old footage takes you back, yes, that footage takes me back to a particularly amazing time in my life. I haven't seen that footage in years so it was a heavy blast of warm feel good nostalgia.
your clip was fucked up good! that quick feet style takes so much skill and control.
thanks again, pal.
