It can't even.

Slap is skateboarding's Yelp in a way. Everything but Fred Gall sucks. The truck thread thrives. We share an excessive amount of personal info we probably wouldn't tell people we know in real life. Some Pals may stop posting or logging on in general, but there's a slew of newbies every day saying off* learning to say of and that's all that matters.

Slap been deaD foreva. The mag & message board format are ancient history but what both of those outlets embodied have staked their claim and had a Hugh Mungus impact on skateboarding. Skating is more about (Skateboarding) Fun times in (Life) genuine creativity & (Art) and certainly PROGRESSION now more than ever. And has been for years.

And it’s important to know that it was Not always quite like this. Major components of the industry changed because of the overall vision of the magazine and collective voices on this website. Fred Gall was not always universally worshipped. Even Gino had hating Pals.

But yeah, the board are dead, it’s cool. Lots of history lots of fun and again the cultural impact of SLAP and what and who it’s represented (as well BY so many heads on here) is pretty fantastic.

It truly is dying. The last bastion of public online skate discourse will eventually be Enrique Bonilla's Facebook posts on the Thrasher site.

It’ll be alive again when Shane O Neil puts his new video. Everything seems like it’s dying at the end of the year until it’s resurrected April 21st.

it's become a bunch of dudes who love correcting spelling mistakes and criticizing fat bill.

You’re going to want to put a period at the end of that sentence there.  I went ahead and took care of that for you.

it's certainly a different time from BB/hipster runoff/carles having it out for jamie thomas, and all the photoshop cover fun that came with that.
when i started lurking in 2006, i had the idea that many of the posters knew eachother from skating in person.
ali's exploits with exchange students were equally pressing as the 'world without pros' backlash and most people had a team banner in their signatures.
with so many people now on it would be difficult to get that community vibe back, but it probably still exists where only pals can talk to eachother.
i remember someone posted a link to 'baker has a deathwish' a few weeks early and no one at my small high school believed me when i told them baker was making a new company. slap highlights

Heard Logitec turned him pro recently.  They surprised him with his his pro model keyboard right after he made a fucking gnarly post about campaign finance reform.

Slap pals are now way quicker to smash that kook button, than in days past. It doesn’t take much to get that rep in the red.
