Trustworthy truck measurements
« on: December 14, 2018, 01:34:52 PM »
Hello!

I've recently stepped up to a 8.25 board with  my 4 year old Thunder 147Hi's.
My plan is to buy some Thunder 148's. However, i'm kinda confused...
How tall are they? Some say 51mm and some 52,3 like the 149 and 151.
Are Tactics.com's specs correct?

Thank You!

I'd trust this over any skate retail website despite it's age:

I believe, atleast Thunder, have had some gemotry changes. If you see the Thunder truck with "(2014 drop)", its 52,3mm. Or am I wrong?

cast baseplates 1 or 2 mm more than the forged baseplates (which usually called "lights" but not always in the case of some of the pro models)

Careful, Tactics are pretty accurate but sometimes wrong, it's a good idea to double check elsewhere.
For the Team Hollow 148, Tactics say that the height is 51mm, but on mine the axis line up exactly with the Hollow Lights 151, which are 52.3 mm.
I also got a Quartet deck from them, they were saying a length of 31.25 but it was actually 31.75 !

Unfortunately OP I wouldn't trust Xen as a poster. He used to be very very trustworthy especially in reference to gear but then he described plain cheddar cheese combos as "so good" and that is such an obvious lie. It really ruined like three days straight for me.

I’ve got a brand new set of those trucks at home.  I will be sending you a series of detailed photos from every angle.  Back, front, top, side, bottom.

I’ll even throw in some pics of the trucks  ;)

What on earth! 48,58mm cant be right... for 148 and above? If newer thunders are that low, compared to indys, then indys added height should almost make up for the shorter wheelbase it gives?

I spoke with the tactics chat, and they say theirs are correct.

That 48mm forged and cast 49mm height is for the 147

The 148’s are definitely the 52.3 height with FORGED/light base plates

So TEAM 148 & Above sizes are 53.3mm tall for regular TEAM standards or TEAM hollow

And again, 148,149, 151 are 52.3mm tall with the lights, hollows, and titanium’s with forged base plates

haha fuck all the mm measurement..  Thunder 148, 149, 151 are the standard "high" trucks that are similiar to what venture and independent hi's are..

DLX dudes who lurk this forum
why  are the thunder 147s like a venture/indy low???  i recall seeing a "low" 145, 147 but the 145, 147s "high" have always been on the same hight as most low trucks then when the 149II came out that was the regular "high" size..

I feel like cause they know, a 8” or under truck width to height ratio is good for the way the 147 is

From my experience I love that the 147 are 49mm/50mm tall

Low but not super low like Indy lows or ventures, just enough clearance to turn and grind but still have good center of gravity control

Again from my experience having a truck taller than 50mm in 8” or shorter just feels like stilts

Like my theeve and Indy 139, it’s too much clearance and lag time for the tail to hit the ground for such a small truck, but that’s me

I’m from the 7.5-7.8 decks and low trucks era

For the 148 Team Hollows, Tactics says 51mm, you say 53.3mm, mine are ~52mm.

That's so helpful :D
I suppose Thunder changed their design recently and they carry different sets?
