Yup, the magic of Odell's editing makes pro skaters having a drink or two look like alcoholism.

First off:  I think you’re seeing something that isn’t there.

Second:  I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but I’ve heard that drug abuse can actually cause problems in people’s lives.

Third: “Xanax” is one half of your user name.  That’s like if I made a post about how much I hate seeing people not sneaking around telling secrets.

Fourth: That quote is from Tim Gavin.  Shouldn’t you be just as concerned about Tim Gavin’s anti-drug agenda?

how does the "real world" work exactly? that's a careless assumption.

I mean in the Ali episode Dollin takes a sip of his beer as hes saying "Drunk driving is fucked up" regarding the Shane Cross accident. I always thought they could have edited to him saying that without him taking a sip of his beer, really threw off the mood in that part.

The first couple seasons were the best imo
All you got is today, get out and skate.

He really should have never asked Nancy Reagan to help edit the show.

If you want to keep your show going, getting a juicy story is the key.

I don't really mind it. I remember watching Greco episodes, wasted on fentanyl and methadone, thing "Yeah, some day I'll get there, too". Took me about five years, almost did not make it.

This is 100% correct. The show does have an agenda, to warn people about the traps of addiction. O'Dell is sober and with this platform, why not tell the truth? It's a trickle of factual propaganda supporting abstinence compared to the endless river of content that tells you using is fun and consequence free.

There's no agenda, he's just playing into the classic three-act structure when it comes to making documentaries interesting. 1st act, establish the rise to fame and glory. 2nd act, display a loss of status and crumbling under adversity. 3rd act, redemption and lessons learned from overcoming conflict.

A lot of skaters have drug/alcohol problems and there are obvious comparisons to the rise and fall rockstar narrative we have seen before. It would be stupid of him to not include that stuff. Without it, there would be no story and the viewer could give less of a fuck because it wouldn't be interesting.

It's definitely a tired-ass story arc that's been used on every sports backgrounder video from HBO Boxing to UFC. Gotta be 40+ years old now.

yeah, O'dell needs a fresh angle. there are 19 seasons of intervention.
