@cosmicgypsies sorry about the paint bombing of your curb. On the upside the slaps were quite good.
@streetmeat not Midwest but in Nor Cal they did the parking lot at a school like that. I tried bricking them, sauce, & wax. But just like you said, crap that would just chunk out when you’d hit them. Way worse that skate stopping a spot.

Try sealing the chalky curb with concrete sealer

Let us know if it works

anyone else live in midwest hell where all new construction of curbs are made with that brushed texture and the concrete itself is 'chalky' and feels super soft? theres so much new construction with would-be sick spots but i need a god damn respirator, 3 rub bricks and a gallon of coating to make these things work /rant
You might be better off rolling your own curbs. Fully water cured and hardened.

mine at my house. It's too rounded and the dip from asphalt to concrete isn't the best.

[close]

Looks like all the curbs here in the Midwest. I can’t think of a single curb in my area that isn’t rounded like that. Grinds definitely don’t lock in but nose and tailslides are still butter. I’m still envious of having a spot right in front of the house. If my wife ever talks me into moving a nice curb out front is a must.

Yeah, same as most Aussie curbs.  In hindsight, I wish I knew about wax and just fillled the dip with concrete.  We spent all day every day skating our street and just trying to olllie grind dry curbs or with copers on.

These are the TV curbs.
Bust factor zero so long as you respect the space.

Jobs never era. I feel in my heart Jim has reached the highest level of punk.  He's basically a full on Buddha now. I'm a certifRied pOnk shaman so I can see it clear AF.

Here's some more beautiful curbs.

The 76 Stairs in Marblehead mass

Haven't been since last year. Sauced for decades rarely sees or needs wax but it's not illegal.

Wouldn't surprise me if I'm the only one who still hits these from time to time.

Skating is dead in Marblehead and it's sinful. I got our kids to learn to bomb a hill and that was that. Now it ms up to them to pick up one of the 10 old boards in the garage at my brother's house.

I hate cellphones and video games.

That's a perfect spot for me. Smooth asphalt, an empty parking lot, and a shade tree. I can be alone there for three hours no problem.
This is not my SOTY. I'm telling my kids there was no SOTY for 2021

@manysnakes it’s usually the only spot I ever want to skate. Plenty of room for flat, curbs usually grind pretty well, and the people that work there don’t really care, unless the property manager is on site (on going construction for the office building on site).

There are a bunch of trees too which add to the chillness. It’s been pretty perfect lately

Down the street from my apartment. They don't care if we skate as long as the bank's closed. And the ground is all blacktop so it's basically the perfect spot. Sorry for the shitty pic, it's the best I could get from street view since I'm not home atm.

Showcasing these when the 606 curbs are so close by? I'll have to snap some pics of the real logan slappy curbs!

(These look dope too, and I want to learn feebles so I'll check em out!)

Yep these are the ones - in Logan Square right under the blue line. I haven't skated them yet but have been itching to learn feebles so I need to get over there.

I didn't start it but I've been hitting up this one a couple times a week. Rarely see anyone else there. Owners of the store don't seem to care as long as it's not during business hours. I might start getting the other side of the pad going soon. Also that post in the middle of the pad is a streetlight so I can skate it at night :)

They're real easy to make. Once you build the mold you can make hundreds, sell them at the skate shops and recoup your expenses

where would I put it?

Sometimes the obvious answer is the hardest to see

I am not a handy man

First get a friend to help, together you can both figure it out. Then you'll need three long strips of wood or plastic or fiberboard. 1 to 3 meters long but all equal in length, also two smaller pieces of wood for the ends to join the other pieces, have them cut in a shape of a trapezoid

Attach your pieces to the bottom and sides of the trap. Tape the inside seems to prevent seeping. Now you have a mold

this is the easiest less technical way of building one but it will be great to skate. I'll go into it further if you're interested

You can get real creative with it

Or real technical

My curb is allllll fucky now from the winter. I think I need to scrape off the old wax and hit it with more lacquer because it does not want to slide.

That’s a small world if it really is

i have a spot that someone waxed but never bricked or lacquered. just caked on wax. it grinds but it would be way better if prepped properly. i think i am going to just use a rock to get the old wax off.

I’ve used something like https://www.homedepot.ca/product/a-richard-3in-scraper-black-handle-stiff/1000411158 to scrape off old wax from a curb that needed some love. Depending on how gritty the curb is, the rock might work better. I’m considering blasting the old wax with my torch and just wiping it off.
