Origin of cuffing dickies too high
« on: January 14, 2019, 09:33:25 AM »
I always thought the whole flood water pants thing just came from people cutting their baggy trousers so they don't drag on the floor (or something like that). But does anyone think it could have come from skaters trying to copy the look of skaters wearing pads (ya know like when you wear pads and it makes your normal fitting pants look too short)?
I myself wear my trousers normal but I do think it looks kinda sick when someone has three or four cuffs in their dickies, kinda punk rock!
Apologies if this isn't a properly formed thread, I've been lurking on here for ages and I like how you guys are all about the writing. I figure if I start making a few posts I could improve my knowledge.
Peace

Outside of skateboarding, it is also like flying a flag that says “I am in my early 20’s and like Joyce Manor, American Football, and camel lights”

Asians came to the United States from post communist shitboxes. They were picked on by cholo gangs such as the Longos and in a form of 'identifying with the aggressor' they adopted the Dickie's and wifebeaters of Mexican gangs.
They rolled up the cuffs and made it their own.
So to answer the question, TRG and the Asian Boyz first rolled up their Dickie's.

I remember Dill being really into the outsiders and rumble fish, I always thought it related to this.

different subcultures have rocked highwaters and high-cuffed pants: courtiers, colonialists and mercantilists, rockabilly musicians, europeans in summer suits, martial artists, ska musicians, skins, mods, punks, cholos, nerds, 80s skaters, 90s skaters with that working-man look like ed templeton and jason adams, aughts skaters like the piss drunx and corey duffel, high fashion like thom browne and selvedge denim lovers, and the current trend among skateboarding professionals such as the late dylan rieder, and austyn gillette, and all their adoring fans. highwaters have come and gone for centuries and will continue to do so.

said jay adams instead of jason adams. had to edit that.

Just so people know you could whip your messenger bag around and hop on your fixie at a moments’ notice.  Because you’re just that kind of guy.
When nothing in society deserves respect, we should fashion for ourselves in solitude new silent loyalties.

Invented so when you stand and crank one the ground cum splash doesn’t get on your pant legs.

You don’t wanna look like some fool with jizz stained pants.
