What are you thinking about working with, concrete or wood?

if you’re gonna use angle iron, figure out a way to make it almost flush with the top and sides. I don’t like when boxes have the edge protruding.

I used this along with screws in my box to keep it from falling apart and making it feel more solid.

Also, if you're looking for some plans http://www.diyskate.com/ramps.html is a good spot.

You could make it from WPC and you won't have to use any metal in it. Don't know how long it lasts, though.

i built mine from these plans:

http://www.diyskate.com/ledge_01.html

the only thing i did differently was 2 sheets of ply on the top instead of one.

the box is solid as fuck and the perfect height. it's a little heavy but it does not budge.

Let me preface this post with the fact that I am slightly inebriated, very uneducated and I havent read any papers or done any research at all, or read your post really.

If you plan on keeping the box outside all the time, using pressure treated wood will help it survive rain. If you use construction adhesive instead of screws for the angle iron, make sure you wipe the angle iron down before you attach it. The metal can be pretty greasy/dusty at first.

Brake cleaner works wonders for cleaning greasy metal.

the one redcurb posted will work perfect.

I always kept my ramps and boxes outside when I had them. Throw a tarp over it and weight it down with some cinder blocks or big rocks so it stays dry. You do that and it will last forever unless your dad decides to chop it up with a chainsaw and burn it.

Don't build it with a bunch of stupid 2x4's, if you buy 3 8 ft pieces of pressure treated 2x12's you can make it sturdy as all hell and only cut 4 boards. I put 11/16ths pressure treated ply on mine as well with 3x2" angle iron. Jigsawed two handholds in it for carrying and when i wanted to make it higher just screwed some 2x4's width wise underneath to get it taller. Donated it to my skatepark last year and everybody preferred the angle iron sitting on top of the ply as opposed to flush with the ply. It gives you more of a lock for grinds.

flush is way better for slides and if you're doing your grinds right you're going to lock in just fine.
