I'm surprised that they haven't tried to have a free distribution on the shops like all the mags in Europe.

I had kind of let Transworld drop out of the rotation after they redid the mag and the website, but recently I found my self going there to see some of their video content. The video part rewind with pros was great, Interests was short lived but nice, and hell I didn't hate Skaters favorite Skaters

Honestly, QS has the best writing. It makes me excited to actually read about skateboarding. And they integrate other interests, like music and sports, really well.

Good find, props to the magazine for covering this and being open about it.

"According to our source, AM has no interest in investing any money into the business. Apparently it’s a “slash and burn” acquisition, with AM buying TEN for cheap and making a quick buck by selling the action sports titles individually".

I'm curious to see where Transworld ends up. All of the magazines in Europe are now skater-owned and free, funded entirely by advertising revenue and closer to passion projects than businesses. And, to be honest, they're probably the best/most refreshing magazines in the world. I don't know if Jaime Owens or anyone else has the means or desire to buy TWS, but it could be a really positive move...

Sounds like the whole genre is in rather dire straits, which isn't surprising, magazine sales aren't what they used to be.

That said, there probably is a bit of skulldugery with ad sales, confederations of NorCal hardgoods manufacturers and a certain other publication that created an uncompetitive environment that doomed TWS.

I will miss the mag but I can imagine any kid below 20 who has grown up with internet and is used to a daily overdose of clips is not going to buy a skateboard magazine with pictures from 3 months ago. 

They might fire most of the staff, then work with freelance staff only and keep the magazine running with maybe 2 people. Common in media these days.

Over the years they have done really cool things. Just gonna leave this here.

I had this and every transworld from 98-2006 or so and I fucking recycled them. I “quit” after my 3rd ACL and didn’t want to think about skating on some bitter break up shit. Then I started again years later and this was a big fuck up. I kept 3 or 4. I have Jamie Thomas and Heath covers, I forget what else.
