I don’t really mess with Supreme outside of watching their skate videos, but I came across this clip and found it interesting. I also didn’t realize they had $500mil investors who own half the company but again, I don’t follow the brand like that
It’s hard to explain The Diplomat’s cultural impact, If you didn’t grow up in the 2000s. You had to experience it to know how big they were. Their fashion influence moved the culture.
That was the main reason why Supreme wanted them to put on their apparel. The photo shoot that they did in 2006, led to one of the most popular t shirts of all time. The T Shirt is extremely basic. It’s simply a square box with the picture of them from the shoot (in the picture they wore white t shirts that said Supreme on them.
Those t shirts today are reselling on eBay for as much as $2,500. From that one photo shoot and t shirt launch, Supreme has skyrocketed. Now they have a cult following with people that will spend anything for their products. Last year the Carlyle Group purchased a 50% stake in the brand for $500million. Which put the companies’ value at $1billion (correction from the video. 50% was sold for $500mill, the total value is $1billion.
Anybody else “in the know” wanna elaborate on the brand’s rise since that point? What else happened afterwards that led to them becoming a billion dollar company? Also, the Carlyle Group is about as upriver as it gets and they supposedly own half the company. Supreme sits amongst their portfolio of investments alongside energy commodities, Real estate, tech companies, and aerospace/military applications, which is hella crazy to think about
