Best Skate Shop in the World - What Would You Suggest?
« on: March 01, 2024, 09:05:03 AM »
Easy people.

With how sick SSD was last month, it got us thinking what would the best skate shop in the world look like? What would you suggest to make the it the best? Our shop (www.thevinessupply.co) is only fairly new so we wanna know what people think would make a shop the best in the world, all ideas welcome!

Thanks

Shops that invest in helping their local scene produce quality videos have my respect.

I thoroughly enjoyed going to the Blue Tile Lounge when I visited Toronto, as I'd been in love with their videos for years.

Shops that support the filmers, skaters and highlight beauty of the surrounding scene are to be supported in return. Win-win.

Help Boardshop is just 6 minutes away by my house. That's not what makes it the best in the area, what makes them the best in the Minneapolis - St Paul area is their friendly customer service and low prices. Their indoor skatepark is a bonus too.

Decent grip included on the price, fast shipping
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

this place has been ick for years. not a fan of a christian non-profit forcing employees to sign forms saying they won't have premarital sex or indulge in consumption of alcohol, etc; people ruined their lives feeling pressure to get married just so they can bust a nut. the original crew was cool but they all moved on a while back

Baitshop was by far my fav shop in Toronto. I absolutely loved this place.

Attitude in Bremen, Germany was possibly the best shop that I have ever visited. I rolled by, they gave me a beer, chatted with me about skating, and were just super fucking cool. I ended up sending them a shirt/video from the local shop in Albany, NY as a thank you.

The dudes at Dime in MTL have always been chill/nice.

BTL can be cool and the owner can be cool, however, I remember some of the sponsored dudes acting like dicks at Dunbat around 2014. Their attitudes really soured me on the shop.

It is a bummer that so many cool shops are ruined by the bad attitudes of their employees and skaters.

One of the best shops in my area, Antisocial in Vancouver, feels like more of a community centre than shop. They host rad events (art shows to premieres), let/encourage folks to linger, support some of the best skaters in the scene, and keep the kids rolling with used boards for cheap (I personally might have abused this for years). You won’t find Nike or Cariumas there. I’ve always seen it as they hold down the fort by always putting skateboarding and skateboarders first with an emphasis on hosting for the community, not shilling for whatever flavor of the week and making sure things are always done core.

Ninetimes in Calgary and Sask hold it down as well. Same thing about creating the community and hyping events and skating.
