Stoked on Night Out III. Really good stuff.

Have you guys every played out anywhere? I've never spun an actual house gig and know that part of it is I'm a recluse, but I'm starting to get the itch to play for some folks.

If you've done it, what's it like? Is it scary? Is it rad? I'd have to imagine it's a fucking stoke-fest. Have you ever had any equipment failures?

GAY you should play out! If I were you I wouldn’t be too nervous since you obviously have the technical skills to mix records and you have a good selection of tunes. Playing out was quite nerve wracking for me when I was still getting my skills up. I was justified in being nervous lol.

Technical failures - yes, lol, especially when I was playing all vinyl. So much can go wrong. I still collect vinyl but I prefer to record them and play them digitally. It’s really a treat for me to play a real gig because they have pioneer cdj’s and mixers. I mix on shitty tiny Stanton cdj’s and a Vestax mixer at home. The other dj’s trip because so don’t use recordbox. I probably should check that program out.

I live in a small town (Chattanooga, TN) so there aren’t lots of opportunities to DJ. Luckily we have an amazing monthly warehouse club night and they will book me to open a couple times a year. I will get the odd booking every now and then. I probably play out like 4 times a year at this point. I wish it was way more but it’s a small town with few opportunities and I gave up on trying to organize events a long time ago. Way too much pressure and I’m not good at it. I’m happiest when dancing or dj’ing - I don’t want to worry about convincing people to come out for the night.

I've started digging into Rekordbox and have to say it's pretty awesome. I'm trying to come up with proper tags for my tracks that mean something to me so that I can search and sort by those tags. It's very database heavy but also does some rad stuff all on its own. And it's free so you can definitely check it out in little steps to see if you dit it whatsoever.

This happened just a few miles away from where I live, would have loved to have went (Solomun and Nina Kraviz were playing), but my mates all pulled out.

Listen to Vol IV

Dude I love it. I didn't get too far into it this morning, but it starts so mellow and relaxed and that first mix is a thing of absolute beauty. Great stuff so far man. You rule.

I’m sure I don’t do this the best way but here is how:

CDJ’s > Dj Mixer — Yamaha Mixer < My speakers setup from the main out/ my Zoom H4N recorder from the monitor out.

After I have recorded in WAV format I open the file in Audacity (free), amplify it, and export it as a 320 MP3 with tags.

If I had a fancy Pioneer mixer I could directly record the mix to a USB or laptop. I have pretty cheap equipment but it gets the job done. Hopefully I’ll have a Pioneer setup soon.

Uploading the MP3 to mixcloud is super simple.

Not much of a fan of ghetto house but I do remember there was this one track...I think it was DJ Funk? (honestly that could be totally wrong) and the words were just like,

"Your grandma
your auntie
your sister's a slut
Your grandma
your auntie
your sister's a slut
slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut slut
Your mother
Your daddy
Your brother's a bitch
Your mother
Your daddy
Your brother's a bitch
bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch"

That song was ridiculous and I find myself singing it to myself a lot

GAY, I cleaned my house to your June 8th mix last sunday. I was killing it cuz of you.
I drank 4 large black coffees back to back and wondered "Is this how GHB feels?" as I was scrubbing behind the toilet.
I don't know anything about house music but i'm enjoying everything here so far.
Thanks for being you!!

HAHAHA dude that's so rad. House is definitely great cleaning music. But I hate to tell you that GHB feels MUCH, MUCH better than one of my mixes. That's why I gotta stay away from that shit.
Thanks a million for listening man that's so rad.
