With Eva coming to Netflix on Go Skate Day (June 21st) I want to know if any pals have seen the show, what they think of it, and what it’s popularity will be like on Netflix.

My favorite anime, this show has great style and some dark themes. I love the 90s hand drawn art. The director Hideaki Anno has created many cool works, but this is certainly his most popular. I’m sure it cost a lot for Netflix to secure and I’m very excited to watch it on an easy platform (I suck at torrenting).

Eva was so ahead of it's time. First mech anime with a plot that actually mattered. The best scene was when Shinji masturbated and ejaculated on the sleeping Asuka, obvi.

Hands down favorite anime. I'm actually rewatching it right now. I think the reason why it ended the way it did as due to budget problems and End of Evangelion was how they intended it to end. I was mind fucked after the first time I watched it then I watched it with my sister and we ended up being both mind fucked. Hoping to have it happen again.

He (the director) actually copped so much hate that he had to redo the final episode(s) when they were first released in Japan. I liked the first half of it ... or at least I did when I was 18 but the plot just gets too crazy towards the end. Pretty sure Anno makes pornos now #onlyinjapan

They ran out of money and Anno had a nervous breakdown around the same time. So yeah, EoE was essentially the actual, properly funded, ending.

I actually prefer the everyday slice of life scenes to the crazy mech battles, but the duality between the two is what makes it great. Favorite character is probably Misato.

im savin that one for later cause if i get into a anime i binge watch the whole shit and i dont feel like diving in to one for like a month, but then i got other ones lined up before that. i dont really fuck with mech shit so it better have a good story.

also fuck netflix, or i should say if you pay more than $1 for lifetime subscrtion your a fuckin idiot. if you pay monthly subscription i view you the same way you view you parents for paying for cable. suckers.

Hilarious I lol'd at the porno idea. yea the everytime I rewatch it, I just get mad near the end.  Movie was dope given the quality, but again end half is shit with eveyone dying.  I hear there was better endings in the manga and the video game. 

TBH I am actually enjoying the remakes that have been done better over the original anime

I thought it was dope but may be too otaku oriented for most people who watch anime.  Also the OG Devilman anime and wings of honnimiese *sp where also referenced in EVA as well as gunbuster

I'm gonna do the obligatory anime nerd thing and suggest Cowboy Bebop lol. There are definitely some other anime in the same wheelhouse as Evangelion as well.

I downloaded both NGE and Serial Experiments Lain a long time ago but haven't got around to watching them. i've never actually watched a proper anime before and didn't know if i should some more entry-level stuff like Cowboy Bebop first

I mean, Lain and NGE are fairly heavy fair. But I can see advocating jumping in the deep end if that's how you roll. Bebop is a classic of tv, period, so watch it either way. There's a decent show called Psycho Pass that's right on the normie bell curve sweet spot if NGE is too much.

Whats a trip is Lain's plot is based around the idea of social media and E-persona's, its main premise was that kids in japan were committing suicide and then receiving messages from dead persons social media like a ghost. I think the creators said americans would never understand the phenomena, and not really get the anime.   I had a hard time with this anime too because of all the esoteric mumbo jumbo in the end.

Cowboy Bebop is amazing just knowing the main characters movements were modeled off of Bruce Lee was enough to hook me in.  But there is an amazing episode with all the main characters eating and tripping off Shrooms...loved it

interesting, i wonder if the creators of Pulse (Kairo) drew influence from Lain? it has a very similar concept in its story (and is Japanese)
