Having legacy pros is great but only having legacy pros was a problem. Crailtap has had some really good additions in the past few years. They should be doing smaller web videos every 3-6 months- so much talent so little output. Focus on the new pros and ams. People would gladly take clips of MC and the Ricks.
They have so many cool styles on the squad right now between Carl, Trahan, Gass, and Niels. I feel like this is the central issue, they are stacking talent but can't seem to convey that on a regular basis.
What is it about FA/Hockey and other similar brands where they can regularly get the point across, with every single video, that the team is filled with unique, great skaters? The only thing I can think of would be the creative direction of Maglinao.
Maybe the only other thing is maybe that in FA/Hockey clips, you get the impression that the dudes are in the van/on the trip/at the spot together, and that gives a little cohesion and impact. With Girl/Choc maybe you get the vibe that everyone is doing their own thing with shoe money and sending footage in.
It wasn't always this way -- I can name bascially everyone on the Super Champion Funzone tour by memory and even quote their one liners, even though i literally did not skate during that time and i discovered it 10 years later.
What is it? Is crail as a company just a slower moving ship that is still struggling to adapt to the internet? Seems like they put alot of effort into the skits, etc in the last video, which was a cool nod to the 90s, but really maybe they should have been firing that video off in 10 minute chunks and locking Spike out of the creative meetings.
