Ive been skating reg mob and love it but been curious about jessup or something less grippy. How does shake junt fit in the mob - jessup grippyness scale?
if you get plain or just die cut shake junt, its right down the middle between mob and jessup (to me).
kinda like mob m-80.

There’s no way to improve grip until spray grip. I want to make a grip tape Mohawk and paint it

Is it just my imagination or was Black Magic once up there with Mob & Jessup as an industry standard?  Like 20 years ago, I just remember it being the main thing.  At least in Jersey it was.

It was huge when I was growing up in Florida. I loved black magic so much, it was perfect. The last time I saw it was probably 3-4 years ago and they only had it in the 4 square packaging.

Some buddy got me a sheet not too long ago. It's a good grip just in between classic Jessup and Mob. You feel it's gippy, but not too grippy like Mob at first.
Also no glue issues.

Didn't skate it yet, but I do know that the grip is softer unlike Mob, which is stiffer and is prone to creasing.

I will also use this time to again state I can't stand Jessup, the grit falls off and leaves a slick black gripless film on the board.

For years I didn’t used jessup because that happened when I was really young. Hasn’t happened to me in a very very long time. I don’t like my grip too grippy so I do the Billy Marks and put some dirt on it and shake it off.

Same problem here, that's really, really annoying. Never Jessup again.

I’ve also started telling the shops to grip my boards these days. Back in the day I would never let anyone do that but now I skate bigger boards and can never get the grip to cover everything.

What a find

I do this only if my local has grip that’s just as wide as the deck. I know I’ll fuck it up if I try. But as long as the grip they have in stock is roughly .25”-1” wider I can do it myself.

Just got a new deck with Jessup Ultra... It feels exactly like Mob. I prefer the classic Jessup

Have any MOB riders tried it yet?

I’m considering getting some on my next deck to compare the two but I’d like to hear what people think.  Pros/Cons?

Mob loyalist here, i tried it really hoping to like it (the shop i usually go to runs out of mob often) and i just couldnt get myself to feel the same.  Compared to mob, the sheet itself is a lot thinner and not as stiff, and the color of the grip itself is darker.  Mob is sort of a grey color and jessup is very black, its also shiny.  I skated it on a sunny day and it was reflecting back at me which is something ive never noticed with grip.  For the actual grip, it feels similar to mob but not quite as grippy, i just couldnt get down with it.  May try it again in a few months but for now im just gonna hoard mob.

Been skating if for the past month or so.

Same thickness as jessup, meaning it grips the same and all that.

The grit is for sure more course than standard jessup, however I didn't feel the need to sand it down like a do a new sheet of mob. The grit stays after skating it too, unlike mob almost becoming slick after a couple weeks.

I did however have my first issues with grip tape ripping. Never had the issue with regular jessup but I took a decent sized chunk out of my nose as the ultragrip just kinda ripped off. I've worked at a skateshop for 3.5 years so I know how to grip to avoid this issue. (it was starting to get cold here in montana so that could have caused this particular issue.)

All in all I think its a solid grip option and probably my go to from now on. Just as sticky and easy to grip as og jessup with more grit that last!

Tried it. Too grippy. Even more grippy than MOB

Although gripping with Ultra Grip is easier because it’s thinner, I’ll stick with MOB

So is it more or less grippy than Mob lol?

I used to sand Mob down but now I feel like it could be more grippy. I wonder if it’s my preference changing or if quality control is off lately.  I swear my last sheet of SJ was grippier than my current sheer of Mob (not that it’s bad though).

Not your imagination. Back in the day it was Monkey grip or Black Magic.
Nothing else, at least here.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

I'll let you know today when I grip! I randomly picked the new Jessup Ultra to check it out as I'm back skating (dusty) parks again.

I rode OG MOB forever, then MOB M-80 last few boards have been Jessup, primitive grip, and thank you supply grip (dwindle) all of which performed just fine.

To me it feels less grippy and it doesn't tear up shoes nearly as bad. I feel like the jessup ultra grip has less grit yet thicker grit while Mob has more grit but just thinner grit material. But jessup ultra STAYS as grippy as it comes. Unlike mob where half of the grit falls of after a week. I think mob feels grippier before you skate it but within no time my mob felt way less grippy than the ultra grip.

That sounds pretty good. I like grippy grip and I hate grip that has gone bald. I also refuse to buy mob. Gotta ask my local if they'd get some jessup ultragrip next time they get new stuff in.

Why would you refuse Mob?  Mob does loose its grip fairly fast compared to SJ I’ve noticed. I’ll definitely buy some Ultra Grip for my next deck.  I’ve heard Grizzly holds up like SJ but I’ve never tried it... not a fan of the company and plain black is hard to find.

I have a problem with their support of white power and I'm not a big fan of the grip anyway. Goes bald fast and is kinda clunky to apply.
