What are your favorite vulcanized shoes currently?
« on: September 21, 2019, 03:42:04 PM »
Personally I usually just buy the cheapest Lakais or Sole Techs that I like but I’m curious about what others think.  Are there any vulc shoes that really stick out from the others?  Is it really worth spending $65-100 for something like a Old Skool Pro or Foy’s pro model when I can get some Griffin VLKs for less than $40?  I feel like I wear through my kickflip spot so fast that it doesn’t really matter.

I want to skate something I haven’t before and so far I’ve been looking at the following 10 shoes.

Lakai Fremont Vulc
Lakai Griffin VLK (used to skate the OG Griffin)
Emerica Wino G6
eS Square Three
eS Aura Vulc
Etnies Marana Vulc
NB Numeric 306
NB Numeric 255
Vans Old School Pro
Converse Louie Lopez

Any of those better than the others? Any to avoid like the plague?

In the past year or so I keep finding myself going back to Old Skool Pros or Cons CTAS, specifically the suede ones. Those with the Footprint insole is a combo from heaven.

The Louie’s are so freaking good. Old skools are always good too. I’ve also heard great things about the wino G6

I was originally considering tho Chima 2s as well but the non-textured rubber sort of worries me.  Also the white section on the back of the heel looks so odd to me.  I'll have to check them out in person, they look like they skate super well.

I've been meaning to get another pair of Wino G6s. They have a solid insole and tongue centering bands. They lasted me a good while as well as accommodated my weird shaped foot.

Oh shit thanks for reminding me about tongue bands.  It blows my mind how few shoe models utilize them.  I'm skating some ancient Lakai Furas that I found when visiting my mom's house.  They were my beater/rainy day shoes for a while back in the day so they were super broken in already but with no skate wear.  I actually was enjoying them a ton up because of how broken in the sole was but once the tongue broke in and started getting pushed into the side of my shoe I can't stand them.

Do you know any other decent vulc shoes that have them?  Do you know if any of the ones I listed have them?

How did you get this far into a thread about vulcs without mentioning state?

Supra Cubas. They skate great out of the box and are great to chill in. My big gripe with them is the collar blows out with heelflips like any shoe without a suede collar

Was at a NB outlet and I think the 213 have them. Blazer mids have an inner booty. I'm surprised that Van's Pros don't come with centering straps

I use the Gamechangers. You have to remold them if you change shoes, but otherwise sizing hasn't been a great concern of mine. As far as support in a shoe goes I'd almost venture to say that the quality of the insole is more important than the thickness of the shoe itself. I feel better in a thin shoe with a good insole than I do a thick shoe with a shitty stock insole.

I’m happy all types cups are coming back In Style so I can get them for cheap. But I also love a thin shoe that falls apart quickly.

The Emerica idincators where great after the first patch of shoe goo. State Harlem’s as well

The provost is my #1 vulc

For the last few years its been Half Cab Pro's for me but the Converse Star Player that Kenny Anderson was endorsing years ago is probably my favorite vulcanized shoe of all time. They need to bring that back.

Blazers are vulcanized.

Also my recent favorite vulcs:
Adiease
Cons one star
Nike blazer (hi, low, xt, gt they all pretty good)
Janoski og
Vans slip on pro
Adidas 3st.001

Also I prefer skating cups, but every once in a while it’s nice to skate a thinner shoe with a glue like grip.
