Forgotten shoes in the history of adidas skateboarding
« on: October 08, 2019, 11:25:46 AM »
I don't know if it's just my issue but I have a hard time tracking down concrete info on adidas history. Stumbling across the adidas Torrent skate shoe on instagram sent me on a quest to find the more obscure models of adidas skateboarding footwear.

There is a lot of contradictory information on when adidas ventured into skateboarding and what their first skate specific shoe was. In 2016 they did a special Skin Phillips retro of "The Skate" model from 1978. I cannot find too much information on this model.

The Skate - 1978

Superskate - 1989

This one re-issued in 2004.

Norton - Late 90's???

Torrent - 2000???

I cannot find the Lance Mountain I. I did find an ad that I remember from my childhood of him wallriding at his house advertising the LMII.

Lance Mountain II - 2000?

Mark Gonzales II - 2000

Here is the particularly hideous LMIII that reminds me a bit of Kobe's adidas model.

I'm sure there are a ton more.

Good god. Then they realized people just wanted to skate tougher versions of their classics.

These are only a little over a year old but how come they don't continue to release this model? It's fire.

The Gonz II that is pictured was a good shoe, lasted forever. Had to toss mine due to the stink. Ugly but very comfortable.

I remember one where the 3 stripes continued across the sole. Maybe it was the Torrent although I don’t remember the toe like that.

Did they actually make a shoe with wood in the sole or did they talk Mark out of that one? I remember hearing/reading something about him wanting a thin ply in the sole for it to connect with the plies in the board or something.

Or did I just make this up?

The Firm video Can't Stop1 is great for old adidas, Jani, Lance, Beach, maybe more? It's been awhile, 15 years or so.

What about those ones where the stripes were rubber and placed toward the toes?

Those skin Phillips skate ones are, and I seldom say this, ill
You know I thought these forums were a for skating not discussing fetishes

These were crazy limited i think. I saw them announced for the next day on the official adidas webshop and got really excited, the next day in the morning i check and everything was already gone. Guess you need some buybot to get them at retail price. I have no doubt that the new colorway will also be very limited.

Shiloh Greathouse rocked a pair on the cover of the Deca vid 2nd to None, I think Luis Cruz had a grey pair

I think they were base from a tennis shoe

These were specials for the anniversary of his performance at the german museum, as seen in the coconut records clip. i have them and like them very much  8)

I wish they would bring back the first Silas. Those were tight. Also high matchcourts, full white. I think adidas kind of blows it sometimes by not having a strong basic line that's always available, then again i'm no shoe salesman.

I just checked their catalog and you're right, they have a lot of steady going models. I guess what i meant to say was: i want the toecapped matchourts in the regular line up. It's a good shoe so it's a waste it's been wasted. On that note I miss the CK1's also.

I really wanted that shoe. I stayed up to order as soon as the clocked ticked over; they were sold out instantly.

I honestly don't believe they did a mass run.
