Dumbest in his class, so he takes it out on skateboarding to maintain his ego. Weak flex, college boy.

HET. It’s all love, and I’m a huge MJ fan too. I do wish Mark would go back to riding 8s - not 8.25 - I loved his footage so much better on a smaller board.

id like to know more of his story tbh but he deosnt strike me as a super interesting person. nothing wrong with that at all!!! just doesnt make for a great interview pretty "normal" stuff to me, from what i know it sounds like he grew up in cali, moved to the east coast to go to university and started stacking footage of philly spots a lot, was able to get hooked up. i remmeber a lot of guys on here really liked him he had that real skaters skater east coast vibe. i still think its pretty cool he chooses to get tricks at these type of creative spots. it pushes skating in a different kind of direction.

i noticed he is in street league and riding for big non core companies so his street cred was diminished a little bit. whne you stack him up in a contest he definitely looks a bit weaker than someone like nyjah. that street league stuff can probably start to put this thought in your head like "i am rank 16 in the world" or whatever it can definitely go to your head.

i have always been a big fan of suciu regardless very cool style on the board and some people it takes a little bit longer to mature than others. i think he has a lot more to give for sure and tbh the guy has never done much outside of skateboarding and school give him some time in the world to start experiencing stuff and maybe he gets a bit more interesting :)

A lot of Mark’s Verso rideaways have some MJ flavour. But don’t forget - this is what MJ was doing 24yrs ago when he was 19...

“I’ve reached another realm and I’m a different type of skater than I’d ever imagined”. Mark Suciu ~Todd Falcon

Lol. Exactly what I thought. I always thought the old world Industries policy that riders can’t go to school was insane but this has me thinking about it the possible positive side of that policy.

I was thinking of all my favorite novels, and they don’t have ‘enders’.

Quote
A novelist would never end a novel with an ‘ender’ because they’re going for different things. It’s not just plot. It could be a tonal ender, like in an album. But when skaters go for tonal enders, it doesn’t work. I feel like Kirchart in Mindfield is a tonal ender, because of the clothing and the motorcycle. It’s sick as fuck. But the fact that it is the ender opens it up to one-uppery. And that gap got fucking destroyed. Lazer flip. Bigspin heel. Switch flip. Impossible tail grab. His ender was a backside flip. That’s a long gap trick.

And the exact same thing with his farewell part. What does he do over the hydrant? A kickflip? And then Elijah Berle took him out and tre flipped it.

Obviously I love Kirchart and I think what he’s done is ineffable, but it makes it effable when you fucking put an ender that can be quantified into ‘How big is the gap, and what have other people done on it?’ That happens a lot, too.

If you read the quotes in Marks soft voice it's not as bad. But it's still pretty bad.

Still hard to believe Marc came out swinging like that. His old parts, he was instantly up there with creager etc. And just a footage machine. Seemed like he could be any trick good, at a time when tricks where bouncing all over the place lol

“Is a magnum opus only once in your career?”

i honestly think this question is more sincere than its getting credit for.  its actually something have been asking myself a lot recently.  its a hard question to think about and even hard explain to people who have never pushed the limits of a "craft".   the  rest of those quotes are pretty over the top but ill give him the benefit of the doubt because hes not really talking down anyone so much as talking down to everyone. every kind of smart person goes through this phase. most of them grow out of it around 30.  some double down.  hard to tell what he will do.  i cant imagine having that much smoke regularly blown up my ass at such a young age. it would be weird if he wasnt a little warped.

This reminds me s bit about another skate nerd, &&.

There is an NKA vid I think where they are inside Andy’s ambulance and he is making a graph of his conception of how skateboarding can be broken down into skill-based groups and then in Venn diagram fashion shows the overlapping areas between groups and points out kind of under-explored areas.

It’s very nerdy and thoughtful, but not pretentious at all.

Each NKA vid is about an hour or more long, I’m to lazy to look through each one right now too

Edit:

Ok, I looked.

This vid, at 39:40

https://youtu.be/kjSfAYqLNGg

one day this dude's gonna use this venn diagram to ascend to enlightenment, crack the code of the skate universe, unlock the ability to skate with %100 of his brain and have every trick perfect on any obstacle.

for a scrub like me, likely yes because i dont get the time to put in grinds on shit like this that he does. for someone like him probably not because all he does is skate so id hope he can come out with something else cold before he retires. when i was 27 that was when i had my first child and when i was killing it in street fighter the hardest anmd thats how old mark is now. so maybe this is the best thing he wil lcome out with. idk.

just depends on the person. theres a lot of bands that are just shit after the first album. they either just copy what they did in the beginning and its samey, or its too different and people hate it. it srare you get a band like radiohead or w/e that can somehow stay fairly up to date without touching the original feel too much. some people need to just move on to other stuff and some people can just kill it like MJ

It’s not a sincere question, it’s redundant. By definition, the answer is yes.

“Is a magnum opus only once in your career?”
I believe so
“Well, I don’t want that. Not the single greatest thing I’ll ever do, but I want to show myself doing everything that I can do...Through talking with other people, I saw the box they put around me and I’ve been taking it apart little by little...I’ve stepped into a space where there’s a possibility of multiple personas to coexists with my own and I can step into them and not take everything so seriously. It’s not as personal”.

C’mon - even MJ or Puleo would struggle to come up with this stuff. That’s impressive! Like I said, let’s hope Mark doesn’t get SOTY and this spurs him on to even more genuine eccentricity and creative skating.

Could people please quit acting like Suciu is somehow smart after reading those quotes?  Honestly, this is how people sound between their undergrad and grad school when they go home for the summer and talk down to their families.

I've thought this the entire time. He only sounds smart because most other skaters are so dumb. Put him in a room with other college graduates and he's just another regular asshole.

That pretty much sums it up.  He's only in his late 20s, people who have been told they're "bright" their whole lives generally get over a lot of intellectual pride sometime in their 30s and start connecting with actual people, so there's hope for the lad yet.
