What’s the length on this shape? Did you got back to the cast ventures, after the lights? How come? (I also prefer the cast).
How’s the 44s, on the way to the spot?
I’m riding an older hi tek, with 5.2 lo, might switch to my 5.0.
Anyway, dope set up

Overall length is 31.5"... just right for me.

Yes, I went back to the cast baseplates as I wanted the shorter wheelbase and taller baseplate. The cast baseplate shortens the wheelbase by 1/8th of an inch and the baseplate is 1.5mm taller, which is like riding a 3mm taller wheel which makes my 44s skate like 47s. I know that's still small, but it helps give me a tad more leverage for pop.

And the 44s have a fairly wide surface contact area and paired with Swiss Ceramic, the ride from spot to spot is no problemo.

Thanks!
14” wb is my fave.
31.5” length is my preferred max.
I love how flat those boards are.
What I really like about mine is there is some taper. I miss the toy soldier Sheffey shape.

I’ve been on a big 31.5 kick. Just set up a board that’s 31.7 and it’s a bit strange but the other deck I had was 31.3 length and I was worried that the tail would be too short with ventures

I like 31.3 quite a bit, and ventures are my fave. But I’m short with short legs, and grew up skating fish tail boards that weren’t long, and then was at my best in the era of sub 8” boards (I didn’t always pay attention to length, but have noticed that boards go up in length as they get wider). I have skated some short tailed boards (that crail shape that mj and guy would mention) and I had more of a difficult time with taller trucks/wheels than anything else.

set up a new grocery-getter for current times

Polar Boserio 9"
Ace 55s (purchased from slap pal Diocletian, thanks!)
Bones ATF filmer wheels 52mm
Bones Swiss
Heroin useless rail sticker

I was a little worried about it being a bit magic-carpet-y with the 55s on a 9" but I think it will be OK

Still working from home, so I still don't know how to fucking embed...

WKND 8.5
Venture 6.1's
F4 Conical 52's 99a
5 year old Swiss 6 that still kill

Pretty much equates to the pre-144/148 error of riding 8.25 decks on 149's.

Really surprised I haven't had any issues of the bushings sticking to the side.  I just waxed the pivot cup and they feel really nice.  They don't carve as fast as Ace or Indy, but they don't feel like they're fighting you and have a nice, stable feel.

Edited for technophobia...

Never realized Orchard was here in Massachusetts, i may have to drive up there one day to check it out.

They are in the process of moving to new location, when they get set back up, ya gotta go support them! I wish I was still close enough to go to the shop.

Me too! I went to music school in Boston, and the Orchard guys are the least "cool guy/vibe out" shop I've been too.  I split that complete up amongst them and a shop here in MI.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the length and wb on that bad boy? I love the shape of my black wknd logo deck but my first wknd deck was a Jordan Taylor that was a little shorter (31.5) with a crazy ski ramp nose and that ended up being one of my favorite decks ever so I've been trying to find something else on that mold ever since

I don't have a tape measure handy, but it's listed as 8.5x31.75x14.25.

9” trucks w 9” width board seems good to me. Why the worry? No taper. They don’t make this 9” popsicle anymore right.. How’re those wheels?

I ride 55s on my regular street setup which is an 8.75, so that’s why I thought it might be magic-carpet but I just took it out and it’s all good.  The wheels feel pretty much exactly the same as the OJ keyframes I had on my previous cruiser, just a bit narrower.

Anyone skate an Alien Workshop recently? Do they still have a pretty mellow nose, tail, and concave? I'm keeping my eyes open for 8.5" decks that are around 32.5" long. AWS is one of the few ones I can find.

Most are bbs, I’d say steeper kicks but mellow concave, not like fa/hockey steep Kicks though. I’m hooked on the Guevara 8.25 shape

The PASSPORT board i'm riding right now sounds about the same in concave and length, but it's an 8.38. Also BBS. Worth a shot.

Prime (according to shop) blank 9.12
Art by @lurkshouston on insta
Thunder 149 w/ Thunder 100 duro bushings
Speedlab Danforth 58mm 97a
Mini logo bearings
Shortys hardware
Krooked 1/4” risers
Mob

I’m eventually gonna try it with some 151s and maybe a set of Ace 55s but with the deck’s  taper, 14 3/8 WB, and small nose, the 149s feel great and the setup feels way lighter than the size would suggest. I was initially looking for something around a 9” popsicle w/ a mid 14s WB but the art on this hooked me and I’m so glad it did cause I probably wouldn’t have picked this shape otherwise.

I only skate prime numbers, so it's either 53s or 59s, feast or famine

fatties, eggs, popsicle
indys, thunder, venture, ace
But the one thing they all have in common: F4s
[close]
You hang with the curb crushers?
Nice quiver. Think 159's and wider wheels would work on that gonz? Thanks.
[close]
I'll see the crushers around and slap it up with them. I'm not in the club though.
I'd recommend 169s (or 66s like I have) on the gonz, no matter the wheel width.
Also depends what you mean by wider wheels. Are you talking conical fulls? Or Slimeballs or mini Juice? Those things are wide.
I happen to have another setup (shocking, I know) with 159s and 58 conical fulls.
Here are some photos to compare and see how the edges would line up:
Gonz on bottom. From the rear, you're looking pretty good.

Front view. It would work. But I prefer things more lined up.

Has anyone ever tried a 159 in the back, 169 in front? I wonder how much it would mess would the turning radius and feel. But it would line up with the edges perfect on some shaped boards.
[close]
Right on. I can remember seeing some of them around.. trying not to say back in the day.. Would love to know where their underground spot is!
Thanks for those pics, that is perfect. Seems flush enough in back and I was expecting to deal with some overhang up front.
I've been geeking pretty hard on wheel size/width. Slimeballs are too wide/heavy for my tastes, Teamriders are ok but too tall.
I've been thinking 54-56mm radials or conical fulls. So 34-36mm width vs 37mm for your 58's. Extra speedrings if I can..
I was thinking about Speedlab 97a Nomads but idk if I skate enough crust to justify softer wheels.

I thought about front 169, rear 159 too. Seems like it'd balance out the surfiness but cranking down the front would do the same. Being a lil cockeyed on locked-in 50-50's would probably bug me.
From a suspension standpoint, F1 cars have a wide rear track to help fight body roll since there's more weight back there. The front end is narrower but aero could be a partial reason. If wider helped with cornering they'd probably do it.
The arc a wider hanger carves should be different but I wonder if you could feel the change. Might not turn as tight up front?
And then there's the wheelbiting sooner thing..

I‘m guilty for mixing up some trucks an skating a 139‘in the front and a 149 in the back for something like.... at least 4 months until one of my friends noticed.
Once i realized it i Changed it to 2 149s. Yet it felt the same.

Prime (according to shop) blank 9.12
Art by @lurkshouston on insta
Thunder 149 w/ Thunder 100 duro bushings
Speedlab Danforth 58mm 97a
Mini logo bearings
Shortys hardware
Krooked 1/4” risers
Mob

I’m eventually gonna try it with some 151s and maybe a set of Ace 55s but with the deck’s  taper, 14 3/8 WB, and small nose, the 149s feel great and the setup feels way lighter than the size would suggest. I was initially looking for something around a 9” popsicle w/ a mid 14s WB but the art on this hooked me and I’m so glad it did cause I probably wouldn’t have picked this shape otherwise.

Haha, love the modern-day plague doctor artwork.

Hel yeah, those are exactly the kind of shoes I love skating and I'm backing them as far as what they are doing as a brand. You should be doing pretty good seeing how DC is huge in Chile, so you should have plenty no problem in finding all the dope model.s
