There's some black magic that happens when you put big wheels on aces. I've got 58 mini combos on mine with no risers and barely notice wheel bite.

only way i can ride a board that skinny is if it has those snowboard style kicks. would love to see a hockey shape slimmed down like this

That's where I'm at. I absolutely love the traditional sub 7.75 pointy kicks. But my old clumsy ass could use some more real estate these days. This would be the perfect combo, and I bet fliptricks wouldn't suffer either.

took the leap and sized down from an 8.38 to an 8.25

a couple compromises with this new setup, WB is 14” when i’m usually into boards with an 14.25-14.38 WB, and it’s kind of a flat board. will take some getting used to, but i wanted to support. has a nice kick to it so far.

14” WB, square nose, G052 shape

Grimple 8.5, 14.25wb
Ace AF1 55
Spitfire F4 Classics 60mm 99d
Bones reds
Random 7/8” hardware

Love it for transition but getting a lot of ghost pop with these big wheels. Don’t want to compromise wheel size, so what should I look for in my next board to deal with the big wheel ghost pop, mellower kicks?

Thanks!

Yes, that size board has such a short tail, might only be a minimal difference, but I definitely felt it, when compared to other boards.

Even the 8.38 x 32 or 8.4 x 32 both with 14.25 wheebase felt so much easier, which are all the same DLX boards, as they had longer tails.

The slightly mellower kicks will mean the tail will get to the ground faster too, so a III or IV stamped board will do that, but whenever I find I am getting ghost pop it is usually more so because I am not getting down low enough, which is often the case with any board.

Once you get a bit more used to the size of the wheels, it should even out the ghost pop thing too.  Muscle memory really makes some things work so well and other things not work at all in regards to different setups.

Do you still get the same issue popping off the nose?  Just curious.

* Rad setup too!

Setup a new curb/cruiser board to supplement my park setup. First time on this shape from DLX and it’s great. I like it a lot more than the 8.5x31.8 I was using before for the curbs

I'm still obsessed with this setup, I hope it rides amazing. I got 55mm OG Classics since it was the biggest I could find and they just do not feel big enough

santa cruz 8.8/31.8/14.25 wb
venture 5.8 hollow w/indy supersofts
f4 conical full 56mm 97a (now 52)
swiss super 6
bronze
jessup
sb dunk lows and highs

went up in wb & truck size but keeping the forged plates, giving it a spin this afternoon
@Esmith5488 following up on the pop feel with venture forged, way too beastly even for my legs. the lightness paired with the steep angled kicks and extended wheelbase wasnt worth getting used to imo. switched to cast plates and everything is clicking again.

heres what works from my own experience:
cast plates for 14.18-14.25 wb
forged plates for 14.0-14.125 wb
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo
