Red Bull - You Good?
« on: November 28, 2019, 03:24:21 AM »
New video coming out next Monday with parts from Midler, Foy, and Zion.  I know you guys all love footage with Red Bull logos so let’s get the hype train rolling.  Will Midler shit on Arto again and switch flip fs board El toro?  Will Foy snatch up his second SOTY?  Will Zion cry?  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see...

Don't really care for Midler, but I saw this photo recently and it's a wild one:

Also, fuck a promo with no landed tricks in it.

It's unfortunate how Red-Bull capitalizes on the skateboard industry, but it's not like they're putting skater-owned drink companies out of business. They're just some extra shit.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Jaime Foy has some good footage in this, although I did see him during the filming and he was not skating and looked pretty broke off, scabs, bruises and limping. Nice chill dude

if these skaters don’t care about “selling out,” more power to them. they’re getting more money, and it isn’t necessarily taking away from “core,” skate brands. and if it is, then let me know

Actually pretty rad, curious for sure because generally the red bull money can make for some decent videos

It will be both - super gnarly, but no one is ever going to ever mention it again after a few weeks. Maybe today's groms when they grow up.

Apparently Salman based his skaterade energy drink off Red-Bull, so he has no beef with them. He's pissed at Monster though! Source: Another fine piece of journalism from Jenkem: http://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2019/09/04/story-first-skater-owned-energy-drink/

would you be down with a redbull hat if it meant the biggest skaters stayed on "core" shoe brands?

I'm gonna watch it and not be pissed about the red bull hats... but I get it. Just don't care.

would you be down with a redbull hat if it meant the biggest skaters stayed on "core" shoe brands?

Edit: and on this subject... what does redbull (or any other energy drink brand) actually take away from core brands staying around? Like they don't make any products that move in on any skate-related markets right? They don't make shoes, decks, trucks, wheels, bearings, etc. They just pay people to wear hats and shirts, and sponsor events related to skating. Yeah they're cashing in but so are the people who wear their hats and are also sponsored on "core" brands. I really don't see the harm, other than the influence it may have on people to possibly develop an unhealthy habit by drinking energy drinks... which yeah, it's not great, but hey, it's better than skaters wearing marlboro hats I guess. haha

red bull hats never really pissed me off too much...but seeing so many in that concentrated amount of video, it really isn't a stretch saying that they might ruin the entire video

I get the hate for the hats. It's creating a uniform for something which shouldn't have one, but they're paying riders good money, sponsoring events, and not hurting any other skate related brand.

I used to work as a bartender for a good chuck of my adult life and I would always steal the Red Bulls for myself because I'm not paying $3 for a can. I convinced our GM that everyone kept asking me for the sugar free ones, which no one was really, but those are my favorite and I wanted them.

For me the biggest thing they do is how well they take care of injuries. Like a guy like Milton got surgery and unlimited physical therapy at the redbull facilities with all the latest technology and best doctors/physicians. All for free. Would definitely take up on that offer if I was trying to skate for a living, even though looking at that hat is unbelievably annoying. They're not even trying to make it look like something people would wear. Only purpose is to best take advantage of the ad space that is your head

Energy drink companies promote excessive sugary drink usage by targeting impressionable kids (addictive stuff). Never forget that.
