Seems like a smart enough dude. Decent head on his shoulders and whatnot. Abuse of the words gnar and insane - just everything is gnarly or crazy according to him.

Preaching sobriety with a Black Plague sticker on his bottle doesn't really make sense, though. Don't know if he's on that shit and don't care, just saying.

They didn't get into it but Dakota is actually an investor in Black Plague which is why he reps it even though he's sober.

Just like most jobs, theres more to being a professional skateboarder than just the skating itself. Look what happened to Forrest Edwards.

I like Dakota. Not my favorite skateboarder per say, but I could see why a brand would want him to represent their company.

Haven't been able to finish it due to life, but have made most of the way through. Seems like he'd be a good guy to have on trips.

Rare and true. Somewhat repetitive I get, but to the ppl saying bland? I do not understand. Guy’s got grace and power on some epic shit. Look forward to seeing more.

Grace and power? Oh come on. The comparison's to Health are completely unfounded. Heath was genuinely physically imposing on his board.

Heath has one of the most iconic styles of all time. You could have a complete silhouette and u would know who kirchart was within a minute. If Dakota was a silhouette he would look like 99% of Park destroyers anywhere between Venice and SD. Not that he doesn’t have good style, but as Gordon Ramsey says, extremely bland.

Really mature mindset to have in your 20s as a pro skater. Dude rips. He was clear that he hasn’t sworn off alcohol for life he just was over doing it and needed a break. He realized that his life has improved without having bad hangovers and just getting caught up in that drinking life. He wasn’t out of control but realized that his skating was being affected and made a change. He says he would still have a drink every now and then so I didn’t find the Black Plague sticker hypocritical or anything.

This made me actually listen to a 9 club episode for the first time in a while. I like Dakotas skating don’t love it but I’m into it. I haven’t finished it but so far so good. I don’t mind the ads crob does. Is that new? Get that money as long as it means you do a small amount of research on your guests. So far I have no complaints and Dakota seems cool. Stoked for the new Emerica video.

Hes been "welcome to the team" good and never got any better. Every time F gets a new guy, hes quickly outshined. Cole, Glick, Aiden...

I agree that those three have more raw skills then Dakota. But besides Glick, I feel like Dakota puts more effort and time into putting out stuff. He seems more productive with what he has. But maybe I'm just not tuned into what Cole and Aiden are up to.

Thank you for the clarification, figured it was some shit like that. Don't recall him saying he has a drink now and then as mentioned elsewhere above, forgive me if I'm mistaken about that - it's cashing out on something he doesn't partake in so I can't back it. As far as his skating goes, no disrespect, but he's solid but leaves much to the imagination. I also would not compare him to Heath but to each their own.

He said he's not planning on not drinking forever and would like to eventually get to the point where he can have a drink or two and not push it too far but stop after a couple drinks. I didn't think he was preachy about it at all, just said he realized he was kind of blowing his prime years by being drunk or hungover when it was time to skate/film.

Can someone explain the interest in this guy from a skateboarding standpoint?
[close]
He is good at skateboarding
[close]

So are thousands of other skaters. Why Dakota in particular? A limited skateboarder who has a bag of tricks akin to a flow rider from 2002. How stoked are people when he has 6 front board variations in the one part?
[close]
He's good at what he does (like what he does or not) and is friends with the right people that can put him on teams. It's not rocket science. If you still don't get that its not a 1 to 1 ratio of skills vs success in the industry, I don't know what can help you.
[close]

I get that and agree with you 100% it's all about who you know. I'm just curious in what 'fans' of Dakota actually see in him, that's all. I agree that he is good at what he does. But what he does isn't remotely interesting or has any sort of depth to it.
he works hard for his tricks, he’s a nice dude, good style, and good music for the most part. makes a part worth watching and his interviews don’t hurt him. Solid guy
