Wonderful episode
There was an interview with TK, when he was a plumber. He got asked if he gets recognized on the job and his response was "No. Plumbin in disguise." Everyone on SLAP thought he said "put him in the sky"

This was a good one. Dakota's grown on me a lot in the last couple years. Seems like a hardworking and genuine guy.

not watched an episode in a while but this was good!
seems like they skipped rght over the whole how'd you get into skating, frst sponno and all that jazz!
they did touch on how he was flow for toy at 14, but wasn't as such detail as other episodes!
keen for green! another jon dickson part is music to my ears!

Slap’s got a hard-on for bland white dudes on skateboards who do painfully straightforward stuff but don’t get any “love” from the industry, I.E. this dude, Cookie, someone named Gabbers, etc.

It’s his bland ass style and basic white bitch trick selection that is really what makes you go why is this guy a professional skater. But if you judge him on his skills, he has a solid good style although it’s extremely bland, he flicks and catches his flips perfectly, and he’s arguably the best at boardslides/lipslides on rails in the whole world to boot.

Hmm. I wish I could skate like that.  Respect to someone who stops drinking without a huge incident, just because he thinks it's a good career move.

I enjoyed it. His conscious effort to quit partying and focus on skating has definitely shown in his footage. I cant wait to see this Emerica video.

Holy shit I though Dekline and Dakine were the same company.
Olympic athletes have diets and train really hard.
Skateboarders eat candy, talk shit, and drink arizona iced teas.

It's going to be a good one. I can't wait for everyone to see what these dudes have been doing especially Dickson. His footage is probably some of my favorite stuff I've ever filmed.

So are thousands of other skaters. Why Dakota in particular? A limited skateboarder who has a bag of tricks akin to a flow rider from 2002. How stoked are people when he has 6 front board variations in the one part?

He's good at what he does (like what he does or not) and is friends with the right people that can put him on teams. It's not rocket science. If you still don't get that its not a 1 to 1 ratio of skills vs success in the industry, I don't know what can help you.

I get that and agree with you 100% it's all about who you know. I'm just curious in what 'fans' of Dakota actually see in him, that's all. I agree that he is good at what he does. But what he does isn't remotely interesting or has any sort of depth to it.

People like different things simple as that. A guy flying down handrails and doing solid flip tricks is all some people need to get hyped. That coupled with the guy not seeming like a complete dipshit helps.

I love the idea of getting mad wondering how a pretty standard (if skilled and stylish) rail chomper with a meat and potatoes trick bag is coming up when he rides for Foundation, Indy, Emerica, etc.  If that isn't your thing why even care about who/what those companies are boosting and why not go back to asking the important questions, like what the fuck is up with Zach Allen being on Baker and somehow getting a full part in Baker 4?

weird to me that people still don't get that at leasts 50% of being a pro skater is just who you know and who likes you. looks at terps. clearly, dill and scuba love him, so he's still pro, despite puttin out 3 minutes of footage in the last 6 years or whatever.

that said, count me as a fan of dakota. he has a heath like quality i fuck with.

I don't think anyone is saying "why is this guy hooked up"? I completely get why he is hooked up, and am aware of his situation, the discussion was more a long the lines of what's the actual interest in his skating from his fans? I just went back and watched his Oddity and Souvenir part's, and it's basically the same with slight variations. Completely each to their own I guess.

Moving on, why is Toy so guarded and adverse with giving people boards/taking them on trips/openly communicating with their flow riders?
