Sad to hear. Lavar is a legend though. His Trilogy part is arguably the best part filmed by someone who was like 15-16 at the time of filming.

If you see him again maybe you can ask what he's up to. If he has a place to stay, has any family nearby, or has access to any mental help if he needs it. If the locals can set up like a go fund me or any other way to improve his situation, that would be dope.

Theres nothing like that part around even today and it was filmed in a couple of days.  Anyone reading this thread who hasn't seen his triology part or his famous scene in "Kids" go watch that shit.

Sadly that was most likely him. Had a very similar run in a few months ago at FTC when I was visiting SF

Nothing but respect for Lavar.
That shot of him doing a switch 5-0 riding that Ianucci Gravediggaz board is gold.

He definitely got lots of tricks on certain days, but he didn't film his Trilogy part in a  couple of days. Legendary part though.

And OP - the first time I went to SF in 1998 we saw Lavar on the street and he was already in rough shape then. Old news.

I have a superstition with letting others ride my board as the few times I have something has broken. In this case I severely regret not letting him do so.
[close]
You asked the man for a picture so you could post it on the internet but wouldn’t let him cruise around on your board? Huh?

Probably could have found out if it was him based on his push

that’s a whack superstition

No, he kept demanding I take his picture. I took quite a few of him doing various poses. After a while I was just trying to get the dude to leave me alone.  It wasn't until I told a friend and the friend verified it was possibly him that I thought to post on here.

Sure, it's wack. Growing up I had 3 boards break on me when I loaned them out and the 4th I broke my ankle. Whatever. People believe in much more ridiculous shit and then spend their lives enforcing those beliefs on others.

Here is another part at around 3 min mark.

He looks pretty good in the picture. I think it’s nice he was interacting at all. Man if Lavar stopped me on the street I would have bought him a beer or lunch. Would love to chat that dude up.

That footy is golden. The shoes!

I noticed at the end of one of the lines he’s pushing mongo even though he was skating regular which might further prove that switching stance rumour.

Yeah he skates Goofy and regular the same way. He pushed switch and then regular mongo. So fucked. Sad to hear he's not all there right now. Hope for the best for that dude. Legend.

I got excited seeing this name pop up, his trilogy part is my all time favorite. Sad to think he's in a bad state. I hope he's ok. Praying for him regardless.

The older I get seeing clips from the movie KIDS makes me cringe so hard.

I came up skating in the very late 90's/early 00's. Shops couldn't easily get old videos but somehow The Station in Fremont, CA managed to get me the old Plan B and World videos. I spent like 2 years of savings on them and the first volume of 411's so this was super weird to me. Like Guy, Lavar was an example of sheer talent mixed with style and mixing not the gnarliest shit together, but clean flowing. Was a bummer to see him in this state today.

I remember the station, didnt they sponsor a rollerblader at one point

Was skating today by Embarcadero and a dude comes up to me. Basically incoherent, but mumbling names of spots in between random sentences. Then starts mumbling names of videos and tells me about his bad foot. Asks to use my board several times. Finally he asks me to take several pictures of him, so I do just because I kinda want dude to leave me alone. Fist bumps me, tells me "Now you know Lavar Mc Bride", then leaves.

I thought it was bullshit until I got to work. There are several marks on the face that match as does the voice. He looked to have mental issues and/or was on something.

Anyone know anything about his current state and if this encounter was real?

yeah, he pulled a similar thing on a friend recently and stole his board at emb.  sad state of affairs.
