the discussion on full-lengths with Shane was really interesting. basically saying that he'd be doing his skater's a disservice & be holding them back from their own goals by forcing them to film. an april full-length would be so sick tho like cmon do it for the culture your skaters should understand. what do yall think? is filming + producing + posting a full-length just not "worth it"? i love a good full-length and im 24 (for context) yeah my brain's rot but i still love a well-made and executed skate video no matter the length. 40 mins with Yuto, Dashawn, Kreager, shane, Ish etc. is definitely possible. just gotta lock in
The point Shane tried to make, at least in my estimation, is that the personal brands of his team riders would benefit more from being presented individually (via IG clips and single parts) than collectively (via more classic mid or full length videos).
I think that's pretty obvious in this day and age. Someone like Rayssa or even Yuto has to carefully time and calibrate their output to get into the strongest possible position to negotiate new deals or renewals with multinational conglomerates. From a business perspective, which all this very much is, skaters on that level have nothing to gain from appearing in a full length. All it would give them is arguably the maximum amount of clout with "core" skate culture, which doesn't pay any bills – and they'll still get plenty from putting out single parts. On the other hand, those single parts and IG clips, or rather the numbers they accrue, can be used as ammunition for aforementioned contract negotiations.
Cephas and Dono were arguing that full lengths, if well-made, still have more gravitas than single parts. That's also true, but their perspective is more self-serving, or rather tied to the skateboarding industry as it used to be when they came up.
