Dude is stuck at 19 mentally
Is this surprising to people? I’m not sure he even finished high school. Dude’s whole life has just been skateboarding.
Nah, I always knew—it’s just that when I was younger, I didn’t notice it as much. I'm 32 now, and it's more obvious. Still, he’s an amazing skater, and I’ve loved everything he’s been part of over the years. I wish he would open up more in interviews but I still liked the interview. I do understand it's still hard for him to talk about Lakai.
Ahhh, okay, that makes a lot of sense. The recognition that comes with age. That wasn’t meant as a dig, btw. It’s easy to forget (or even not initially understand) that so much of the industry is just guys who have only had skateboarding to inform their life. But when they wear homemade shirts to contests before they quit their sponsors, raid warehouses for product, run million dollar businesses on handshake deals, and fire riders in interviews while threatening to deliver product to their doorstep donning a strap-on, and you realize they started at age 14, 15, 17, etc. it all starts to make a lot more sense.
Dude looks so good on a skateboard, there’s no denying that.
