Oakland skate points-of-interest?
« on: January 02, 2020, 02:26:02 PM »
Hey Pals,

Headed to Oakland for 4 days next week. Staying downtown. What shops/spots/other skate related things should I check out? I haven't really ventured into Oakland proper much, just stayed and skated in SF and Berkeley a few times over the years.

I know about Bobs and Macarthur skate shop, but that's about it. Any info would be much appreciated!

There's an ideal ledge spot next to a park in neighboring Emeryville, you've definitely seen it in videos and stuff. I'd give you the cross streets if I knew them. Also a really good ramen shop nearby for post session foods.

^This.
Berkeley is sick for skating. Sproul plaza on the school campus goes, lots of nice flat, small stairs, and quite a few ledges. Lots of other spots on the campus and nearby too.

I've always liked the Courthouse, it's got a couple of ledges, a curb, nice flat, and the huge set with the huge ledge that KB back tailed. If you go after 5 it's usually not a bust. Plus it's right by Lake Merritt and downtown.

There used to be this sick little DIY in a basketball court right by the Macarthur Bart Station, but I haven't been there in 2+ years and it may be gone now.

Last time I was there I stopped by after grabbing lunch in the area on a random weekday. Should be just fine considering it's more or less a public park, I'd just keep an eye out for children playing and their parents watching over them etc.

The Hollis area is damn near a designated skate area. Like mentioned, just look out for the kids and whatnot.

Nearby in alameda ( not too far from
Downtown Oakland ) there’s a cool
Bank to curb spot that’s been pretty popular recently. It’s heavily featured in a recent Krooked video.

It’s in the parking lot where the USS Hornet is docked.

Sooo...
Did you enjoy your trip?
Which spots did you hit?
I wish somebody had hopped you to the sweet tree bump over by the port of oakland, in the Jack London Square part of town. There’s also the tunnel ledge not too far from there.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me.  You think you got me?

I did enjoy the trip! Actually we did get to skate the a couple spots in that Jack London area, including that tunnel ledge three-up-three down spot. Hit the rail and ledge spots that are near each other right on the water in Jack London

Hollis was fun, got a clip there. Berkeley park was rad. Town Park was a great experience, seeing what the skate community gets together to make happen there! Locals were way more inviting there than I expected.

And both shops I visited, 510 and MacArthurs were sick and super nice. If anyone ever goes to MacArthurs on a trip, stop next door to the tattoo shop and check the boards on the ceiling. I guess the owner/tattoo artist has been doing graphics for AH and Real for years.
