The blue ones in the v8s were confirmed to have come out a little softer than the usual 90as. It wasn't by design, this batch just ended up a lil softer
[close]

Can confirm this.

Good to know. I'm pushing 195 lbs but have always been able to rock stock Venture bushings. The V8 bushings were not working for me. Too soft! I thought I was losing my mind.

I normally run Ventures flush with no threads showing. With the V8s I have like one thread showing. I almost busted my ass when I threw down for the first time on the V8s. 😂

TL;DW:

* Didn't like them on a 14" WB minus for manuals, but wouldn't ride them just for manuals.
* Didn't like them as much on a 14.5" WB as an Indy Hollow
* Surprisingly liked them on a 14.25" WB, but wasn't conclusive on if he would choose them over what he uses on that setup now.
* Likes that it gives people options.

Took me 5 minutes to drill some forged baseplates, i don't like forged plates that much so i didn't care if i ruined them. Might have set the wb wayyyyyyy in....

I used the forged plates since the og holes are drilled different than the cast. Gave me more room to drill the holes more seperate. Plus they sit the hanger lower. FYI i used indy stage vii plates as guides and templates.

Mine showed up today, I might set up the plates on my old hangers as I still have truck to grind through.  Sitting on a set of kaders too….what have I done?

In Canada it seems the only shops are Shredz and Too Hip.  Doesn’t seem like there will be much more coming it appears.

@Xen Ace Low Hard bushings work with Ventures? Or will the regular Ace ones work better?

Snagged myself a pair of 5.8 v8's and some ace hard low bushings. Pretty sure the ace low bottom bushing is 1mm lower than a standard venture bottom bushing but I'm not too worried about it. I guess I could use a flat bones washer under the cupped washer if I wanted to match the height.

The v8 trucks won't come in until Monday so I'll follow up after I've got some quality time on them. Might take me a little to get used to since it'll be my first pair of ventures and I've been on ace af1's for at least a year.

Bushing heights / Ace low vs. Venture stock

Ace low:
Top  10 mm
Bottom  12 mm

Venture stock:
Top  9.5 mm
Bottom  13 mm

Should be fine. There's only 0.5mm difference in the overall height.

If you're feeling it, Indy bushings work fine in Ventures.

The ACE low bottoms are just a hair lower, felt great (easily my preferred bushings for them, especially forged vents) didn't feel like they threw them off in anyway. Regular ACE bottoms are much too tall.

The V8 is slightly drilled back roughly 1/8inch when on the standard holes. This is compared against a standard cast baseplate.

[close]

That is very interesting!

Even a small difference like that can be such a different feeling when skating them, which is why they would be a good stand alone truck, or more so used just in the second set of holes on boards that the wheelbase is too long / kicks too short.

I am still liking the tail in but the nose as it was, on a set I drilled in myself, but will be keen to see these trucks in person when they do arrive in AU, a few months out still I think.

Thanks for posting.

The loose trucks thing went over so big and the new purps that gleam that they wanna continue to bless us with no wheel bite goodness.

I stopped and did a bunch of footwork. I don’t remember what it’s called. You know like some TA flatland shit you know you walk the board forwards and backwards and then I did some difficult turnovers but like you keep your flip pointing back so you do like a bunch of them in a row like Tick tick tick tick tick you know, freestyle bullshit

And I got to call my kids back in the hospital. Even the only truck that matters can’t fix that. I’ve worked 45 hours in a row with a 6.667 fucking hell minutes of sitting next to a hospital bed. My gout might be flaring up cuz I’m running on popes blubbery lemonade and gyros

The new v8 bushings firmed up significantly. Maybe a little tighter than older stocks.
3 days of 1.5 hrs or so. They feel pretty good but i kinda miss the super surfy loose feeling. The dreaded pivot cup squeak came in yesterday after the 4th day.

Were pivot cups always this noisey? I remember that not being a thing back in the day. Now every truck fucking squeaks at the pivot after a bit.

I feel like trucks were squeakier back in the late 90s early 2000s when I first started skating. Any older videos I watch you can hear the trucks squeaking like a son of a gun.

Everyone I skated with back then had their trucks so tight the bushings were screaming for the gift of mercy. I don't remember any truck noises, but I also can't recall anyone turning without tictacking.

My set of V8s arrived today. I'm used to riding V-Hollows on 14.5 wheelbase decks, so I'm really curious to see how shortening the wheelbase is going to affect my skating.

That is very true lol. There was hardly any turning involved.
I really wanna get a pair to try on longer wb decks. I love certain shapes and whatnot but sometimes the wb is too long and I feel like being able to shorten them and still ride the trucks I like will be a game changer.

When I tried the v8 I thought about putting my cast hollow hangers on. It fits fine, all interchangeable.

But figured probably shouldn't. Recessing the wheelbase that much is already going to make the pop feel so much lighter, probably dont want to exacerbate it even more by lightening the hanger.

I tend to agree, but I think there are edge cases where it can make sense. I put V-Hollow 5..8 hangers on the V8 baseplates and used those on a Baker B2 8.5. That deck has steep kicks and a 14.5 wheelbase, so it didn't feel off. On decks with shorter wheelbases and/ or mellower kicks I wouldn't recommend this combination though.

Got the V8 5.6 yesterday. Super surfy feeling like ace loose. Will stay patient and see how much the bushings firm up before I give into the bushing pivot cup madness. First impressions on the grind tho are faster than my v hollows. Riding them on a 14”wb wknd board and I gotta say as an old cat the super light pop is nice on the ankles.

drill bits for metal drilling in ascending order in terms of cost are High-Speed Steel (HSS) bits, Black Oxide bits, Cobalt steel bits, and Titanium bits

I just got a very plain simple 5 mm HSS drill bit and use a very simple cheap battery drill and it works fine.

The things to note, drilling a very precise hole is often not going to happen, so I tend to widen it out some as I go, as well as keep an eye on exactly where the drill bit is going, eg often goes a little to the right as I drill, for whatever reason, so yes user error / issues aside, it does work fine with a little care and control, sometimes better than others.

Holding it straight in a vertical way, not going too fast but going fast enough on this variable speed drill and keeping a good view of where it sits in relation to the other holes, then an easy break through and cleaning up the hole a bit by going round some.

Tried very carefully marking it all out at first, but now, after maybe twenty or more baseplates, I just go by eye, look at where the other holes are, line it up and start, check it after a little just to make sure it is in the right place, angle it in the right direction and drill a bit more if it went crooked, then once the hole is about right, finish it off and clean it up a bit, then on to the next.

I also angle grind off the E from the word VENTURE so the deck bolt nuts sit evenly, but it is not essential.

Also, cast baseplates I like to drill from the underside as they are solid, but forged baseplates I like to drill from on top, as the underside has too many bumps and the drill bit doesn't sit well on it to start.  Might be different if there was a fixed setup, like a drill press, but I just have a jig made up and go from there.

Can post some pics if anyone is interested too, but it is very much just a "backyard" type setup, nothing amazing looking.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

.

To add to that, Venture LOW trucks also benefit from the double drilled holes too.

I have a set on a board that was really just gathering dust, but someone wanted to try them, so when set up on the preferred deck, it felt so heavy on the kicks, that I just went and drilled them out, put them back on it and now it feels way better, the 5.2 size on a DLX 8.18 with 14.38 wb and everything just works so well, given what it is.

Actually surprised me how good it felt today at a skatepark, where everyone had a roll on it.

Tried a DLX 8.75 with the 6.1 standard trucks too, but on the forged baseplates drilled in, it felt way more fun, for a Venture truck setup.  I didn't have other regular double drilled baseplates with me at the time, otherwise I would have just used those, but it worked really well, so maybe the forged baseplates could be a better option for drilled in trucks on more normal boards that might not really need a lot of drilling in.

been thinking forged v8s would go crazy
gonna diy it and pair with a 14.5 wb polar
im thinking a lighter nose would suit my pop timing

if all else fails, i go down to 14.25-14.375wb
and just run the stock hole pattern

@Mbrimson88 whats the new wb after the re drill?
im going to use indy 6 hole plates for reference
i can do the math, just curious on your findings
