Higher ledges
« on: January 06, 2020, 07:11:21 PM »
I have a few tricks dialed on my somewhat low box at home, but they don't work so well on the higher ledges at the spot. I think it is as much physical as mental. I know I can Ollie much higher than the ledge but nonetheless it doesn't happen as I would like it to.

Does anyone have any tips for taking tricks to the big ledges?

5.0 grinds especially switch backside ones but I want to raise my general comfort level and confidence on the higher ledge and was looking for some general techniques

Highest switch backside 5050 I ever did was knee high and switch manual is significantly harder for me so I can't really speak on switch back 50 specifically.

How high and how comfortable are your switch ollies? At my peak when I did that switch 5050, I could switch ollie about waist high so it was just a matter finessing it for me.

When I do sw bs 5-0s on higher ledges I have to go at a bigger angle. I also put my front foot further down so I have more room to drag up.

I know I can Ollie on I have done it but it doesn't feel stable I can switch 5050 benches but the 5.0 feels different

I think I could only skate below knee ledges cuz I'm a chunky fuck.

5.0 is one of the harder tricks on a high ledge for sure, maybe do a crook or something that’s a little easier to get used to the height.

Yeah, I'm reg and balancing on my left foot like that feels impossible. Switch nose manny/grind is more stable for me.

Is your switch manny game tight? Maybe build up on that on higher stuff to dial it in.

Best thing for higher ledges is to skate them more, and exclusively. Skating small ledges only makes bigger ones way more uncomfortable, happening to me right now lol

I have thoughts on an exercise board for strength training. So get you onto that ledge.

100%. The ledge at my local park is tiny, so if I skate there too much it messes me up.

I’m terrible at skating taller ledges and I know it’s because I don’t skate them enough and have gotten soft. It’s like anything I suppose just do it often enough and it will get easier. I was on it for a minute but I travel a lot for work so when I come back I feel all my progress is lost and I have to start all over.
