 I'm too old to care now but I hope today's 12-year-olds- have a special little subculture that speaks to them in ways, uniforms, teams, energy drinks, robotic routines, televised performances never can. Not sure what it might be but it is likely not skateboarding.

*THE* subculture is still there and I'm talking about a very specific portion: Blood Wizard, Bacon, Zero (the team not the chief), Slave, Heroin, Black Label, Krooked/AH / Creature / Foundation (to some extent still); the dirts.

'Clean Teams' have always been weird to me...not discounting the skating but it's just like any other clicks...dirts, preps, jocks, nerds....hipsters (fucking set all the subsets on fire).

I just wanted to add that who else hopes that the US loses. My reason for this is because I'm sure the borrics would like to capitalize on anyone who has skated their facilities to tack on some olympic level crap to their title and make some wack documentary about the champion and how the borrics helped them get there.

Has there been any other countries that beat the US at baseball, basketball, etc. or all the other events that originated from the US? Lots of pressure if we get smoked and don't even medal at all.

Seriously though, skateboarding is now all too accessible, conformist, commodified and formulaic ... all of it. Part of the appeal was how elusive it all was. You really had to find your way in and that weeded out inauthenticity. I'm not mourning the 'good old' days but it does concern me that everyone speaks our language now.

 I don't like exclusive clubs but I do like dark alleys where fuck-ups, weirdos and ADHD outcasts can welcome each other and bond over laughing at the rest of the world while they laugh at us.
