Spots around and between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay
« on: January 15, 2020, 09:16:33 PM »
I’m going to be in Santa Cruz for a few days, then camping around Half Moon Bay in February. I’m old and busted so I’m looking for recommendations for good curb spots or transition to skate. Maybe some knee high ledges

Also open to other recommendations for things to do in and around Santa Cruz. I’ll definitely stop at the NHS Museum, but I’m open to anything

Derby you dummy

I guess I should have made clear that I am looking for places that wouldn’t come up when you google “Santa Cruz skateparks”, but Derby has been atop my lost since I was 10 and saw my first Thrasher!

I appreciate the recommendation, though. Very excited to fly out at some point and bust my ass.

Santa Cruz
--
There's are some fun parking garages downtown.

The parking lot near the Depot Park BMX has some good red curbs, or it did 3 years ago.

Frederick Street park is a neat little skate spot that has fun bumps to blast off of and is fun to just pump around.

The downhill ledge at Laurel and California is legit.

There used to be an incredible DIY just south of Scott Creek, but it got filled in. Someone might have dug something up by now to skate. Feel free to check it out and report back: https://goo.gl/maps/j3QowRA9grfCRmRJ6

Pigeon Point road has some dirt banks that were fun to slide on, might be a bit soft this time of year:

Sketchy flat bar at Bean Hollow state beach:

Half Moon Bay has the cement park which is fun. The mini ramp at Surfer's Beach just got rebuilt.

Its been a minute but my favorite curb/non-ollie spots in that area are:
1)  Capitola DMV(long skinny manual pad with curbs on both sides)
2)  sometimes there’s a parking block at the Frederick Street Park that you can post up against the bank and kinda skate as a transition
3)  Scotts Valley Skatepark has a bank-to-curb that's fun to skate(that place gets really crowded though)
4)  Ben Lomond Park has some mellowish transition and that area is kinda cool in an 80s horror movie type of way.  Not typically as crowded either.

Some spots I don’t feel comfortable blowing out on here but if you push around the area by the pier/boardwalk you’ll find some gems(by gems I mean stuff you can skate without ollieing. If we’re being honest here I don’t think any of us have much interest in ledges these days).
All you got is today, get out and skate.

These sound great, definitely interested in the park.

How hard do these places enforce pad rules? There's a 0.00% chance I am packing that shit

A quick Googling suggests it has been filled in

I live by downtown Santa Cruz and I'm actually sitting in a coffee shop in the area right now. Spots are pretty spread out around here, but there's some gems. Santa Cruz High has some chunky ledges, a long manny pad, and some other fun little things. Depot Park is a crazy prefab BMX park, but there's some slappy curbs and little banks that I skate all the time. Down the street from that and closer to the Boardwalk there's some other fun low key spots. I also just went to Felt Street Park for the first time and it's a tiny skate park that's super fun if it's not crowded.

Can anybody PM me the location of Buena pool?? I know what general area it’s in but I’m not sure of the exact location...
