Back in 2017, I was trying to decide on whether I wanted a PS4 or an Xbox One so when I stumbled upon this Ebay post I couldn't resist giving it a try despite being somewhat skeptical that someone would sell an Xbox One so cheaply with that many games and free shipping. All I had to do was replace the controller cover which was no big deal.

So, when the thing arrived I wasn't able to insert my games inside of the console and I thought it must have been broken until I tried the eject button and a bonus 10th game came out. It's already 2020 and I've had zero issues with it so far, hopefully this post doesn't jinx that.

This next story is somewhat unrelated, but last year at Goodwill I noticed they made the mistake of labeling an Xbox One as an Xbox 360 and were selling it for only $30, which would have been a huge steal but I decided since I've already been lucky enough before I'll just let someone else spot it and hopefully it makes their day.
When I worked at gamestop, people would always trade in consoles and forget they had games in them. We didn't test them for some reason lol. So if you found a game after they left you traded that shit in yourself and made some money, pretty sure a dude left a porn in once.

Also bums used to come in with obviously stolen shit. We're talking like 4 controllers sealed, 3 copies of the same game for different systems, a bunch of shit in a backpack from Walmart down the street. When shit like that would happen we wouldn't say anything, do it quick for them but they wouldn't notice a couple things they brought in we didn't trade in, they wouldn't want a receipt either. End of the day you cash that shit out for yourself. Made a killing every week all those years ago.

Back when a hamburger from McDonald’s was 95 cents including tax, I bought a single hamburger after school once and paid with a dollar. They must’ve thought it was a $10 bill and gave me appropriate change for that amount lmao. That was the peak of my life.

Some guy sucked me off and gave me 50 bucks for it.

I know this story. You never got the $50 dollars. That guy never paid up.

couple years ago building a PC i was looking for cheap cases, I found a used Fractal Define R5 in great condition for £20 - it was listed as an unbranded white PC tower so I presume they had no clue what it was. That case goes for £100+ new so I was fucking hyped, now on the pictures I'd seen a very thick looking cable inside the case and assumed it was a USB3 header. It turns up in this fucking huge box for a printer/copier machine, I rip it open and voila. Something's clanging around inside the case so I open the side panel and there's a fucking Corsair H110i AIO cooler inside the fucking thing, that shit would be £100 new.

The AIO was fairly clogged with dust but a quick clean fixed that, I'm presuming the place I got it from was a tech refurb place where someone had got rid of a broken PC (I think this because there was some definite soda marks on the motherboard tray of the case), they gutted it and sold what was usable.

Bought a house.  Offered  $275k, which was $65k under asking and was accepted.   I then found out someone I know was writing up an offer for just $15k under ask. Since our offer was accepted theirs didn't get presented.  House was worth the $325k the other people were willing to offer - we just didn't have it.

Since then (2011) house has more than doubled in value.

2 JL Audio 12w3's in a B Box ported enclosure with a Kicker CX600 amp for $100 from a pawn shop.  Sales dude was a little bummed, cause he had his eye on em for payday.  Retail would have been around 800.  Used probably 400.  Not the hardest hitters in the world, but they sounded and pounded great.  Lasted about 4 years of daily abuse during my commute before one finally blew.  Upgraded subs and amps, but still have the CX and the other JL.  Probably gonna throw it in my daughter's car.
I bought 2 15 kicker comp c's, custom box and amp for $100. I used them almost daily for a year or two before trading them in on a sundown. They gave me $200 for it so I felt pretty good about it.

I always carry at least $80 in cash when I’m getting drunk wandering the TL because someone is always selling something good. I’ve got numerous iPods for $20, a couple of iPads for $60, a Mission Workshop backpack for $20 that was worth $400. My favorite so far has been this dude selling half gallons of Jack Daniels with the little theft tops attached for $10 a bottle, I bought 6. Always some good shit.

Damn good deal, son.

But yeah, Sundown all day baby.  Thought about tryin to run a U18, but decided I didn't want to forfeit my back seats AND my entire trunk with a box big enough for it ( since it's already stuffed to the gills, between the SA-12's in ported Q Bomb,(the BIG one, tuned to about 35hz, I actually had to face the subs into the cab, cause firing back into the trunk, though it hit harder, was too much, between the bass, rattles, and panel flex,  was drowning out my highs a little too much for my SQ tastes these days) and the amp rack running the Kicker 1800 (subs) and separate amps on the Crescendo Mezzo components in front and midbass in the rear doors.  Kinda glad I went with the SA's now.  To be a lower end Sundown sub, they shit all over my old JL W3's (and the W6's I had awhile back) and  actually cost less.  The U18 would have been miserable, haha.

I got my MacBook Pro for free. Cost $2500 at the time.

At a previous job of mine, we would receive points if we did a good job. We could then exchange those points for gifts.

My job had recently introduced an upselling responsibility for my department. I was doing well in it, and made the company thousands of dollars.

One day I got awarded about 24000 points. I didn't stop to think that it could be a mistake due to the high number - I was killing it by selling extra products. All the points I had accrued, plus the 24k, all added up to equal the cost of a brand-new MacBook Pro.

My Dell Inspiron was old and dying, so of course I exchanged the points. I was hyped because I rarely buy any brand-new electronics since they're expensive.

A few months went by - not days or weeks, months - and I was getting ready to leave my position. I had already given my notice a month earlier so they'd be prepared to hire someone new. A couple of weeks before quitting time, I got a call at home from my former manager who asked me if I'd recently received 24000 points. Turned out there was a glitch in the system and they'd awarded me the points by accident.

My manager was upset - with me - asking me how I couldn't have noticed that it was such a high number. I told her that I'd been upselling well and thought that was the reason.

She wanted me to return the MacBook. I told her that I'd gotten rid of my old laptop and I only had the MacBook. Eventually, after conferring with the higher-ups, she called back and told me that I'd be able to keep the MacBook, but would need to give the company the rest of my points (I only had a few). I said that's fine. I'm still using the same MacBook to type right now. I love this thing.

Also just got my dividenD from REI today, so I'll add shopping there as a good deal.

Usually it’s to do with vinyl. Finding a stack of rare records for 2 bucks each at a thrift store, or buying a 45 for 99 cents at a record store that’s worth $50, if they didn’t know what it was. Doesn’t happen often and nothing that made me a rich man. And I’m not flipper scum, I actually keep what I find

How many of the SA's do you have? Do they hit pretty hard? I recently bought a 93 300zx and was thinking of putting one in it. I was only going to go with one 12 because I really don't want to lose all of what little trunk space I have. I have a zv5 15 in my other car but really don't feel like dropping that much on a sub again haha.

Yeah Son, the SA's hit hard as fuck.  Like I said, with the JL's I had to face them into the trunk, to get enough bass out of em.  The SA's I had to face into the cab, because they were hitting TOO hard and drowning out my high's and mids.  I go for SQ more than SPL these days.  What impresses me most is how LOW they drop.  At 30hz, my 12w3's would bottom out (where you could feel a rumble, but not really hear the note clearly)  With the SA's you can feel and hear the notes super crispy.

Obviously the size of the enclosure ( bigger box = more air space = lower tune) comes into play, but the SA's play very nicely down to 30hz)  My box is tuned around 35hz-45hz, so tend to hit hardest around that range) and will crank out solid bass from (30 hz -80hz).  I have the LPF set at 80hz and then the HPF set at 80hz for the midbass amp to go up from there, it's LPF set in sync with the HPF on the amp for the Components and so on.

Running 2 of these on a Kicker CX1200 now, gain set slighly above 1/4 turn, (cx1800 was still too much), wired parallel for 1ohm final at the amp, so each is getting about 600 watts rms, and yeah, the slam, get low as fuck, but balance very nicely with the mids and highs.  Crossed over as noted above and can hear everything crisp and clear at all volume level.  SQ, baby.  These are the ones I have.  Got em here

Got a nearly-new True brand stainless steel commercial refrigerator that would have been about $4k new for under a grand from a biz that was unloading their equipment.  Was definitely stoked on that.

hell ya, I've got a shop that does 3 for a buck and pulled some great Jazz fusion right before Corona came to town along with a couple worth $40. Got a Dinosaur Jr. SST first press of Bug for $2, mint. But perhaps the coolest, is a first press GnR Appetite for destruction, with the original cover (look it up), that was scored on a Saturday morning when I walked into the shittiest 2nd hand store in town. It was sitting on top of a stack. The old dude volunteering at the counter charged me 10 cents. Condition=VG. Or, when I was 13 and had to go to day camp, I was wearing a Dead Kennedy's shirt and the bus driver brought me her son's copy of Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, first press cherry red records Orange cover, swing band on back. Still in shrink with poster intact. Still got that one 22 years later...

But best deal, shit, when I first met my partner I was in the midst of raging alcoholic year. Totally browned out on our first date and thought she was someone else. We've been together almost 6 years now. Been sober from booze almost 5. She's encouraged me to do the best i've ever done. That's a fuckin deal.

Two come to mind.

Last year I was looking at a coin collecting stall at a market. In a box of old world banknotes for $1 each I found €45 worth of notes which I bought for a total of $4 AUD. I took them to the currency exchange and swapped them for the then exchange rate of $70AUD (about $50US).

Another time I found what I guess was someones record collection at a junk shop for $5 each. Bought about 20 or so records. All original Smiths, Cure, Joy Division, Coctau Twins, My Bloody Valentine etc must of got about $500 worth of records for $100

Im doing a 'coding bootcamp' and we are the first class to go through this particular program so they are offering it for free. In my area these programs tend to run about $13k.
Every time the McRib comes out I buy it. I don't even like the damn things.
