setting up an 8" 14 wb hockey i got from my local as adrop off today. pray for me fellas
Good luck. If you're anything like me you'll love it for two days, post on here about how good it is, then immediately go out and proceed to hate it so much.
That being said, last spring I set up a 7.88" Habitat with Venture 5.0 lows and skated it for several weeks without issue. So you could love it.
i ended up liking it for the start of the session but i got a bit annoyed at myself for not being amazing on it. understandably, it was the smallest board i ever set up but at the same time i couldnt get into my groove without landing tricks. i think if the wb was at least 14.25 i would have rode it out without bitching. my flip tricks were really weird and i wasnt a fan with having less room for my flicking foot. would take more time to adjust for that than what i was willing to give. also, doing anything with speed felt immediately sketchy.
on the other hand, my rotational tricks were better than usual. i practiced a couple of shuv variations and ended up landing my first fakie front shuv when i switched to my reg board. it definitely helped to practice on the smaller board and then take it to what i felt comfortable with.
the most important thing i found out is that i will really ride whatever skateboard is available if i didnt have the option to choose. if that was all i had, i would ride it till it snaps. i really liked how flat the tail felt on the hockey shape and if their 8.5 is similar, its gonna be on my list for sure. still on the hunt for my perfect dims and will continue to pick up free boards to test it when i can
